Here is a map from a new paper on the spread of an invasive pentastome parasite by SLAM (snake lungworm alliance and monitoring). The counties in red on the map are new localities for the parasite. Contact me if you want a pdf of the paper (it is behind a paywall). #SLAM

@BrianHerrin24 Did you get an id by DNA sequencing? The invasive species R. orientalis is now in the pet trade. We could do DNA sequencing on eggs if you want.

Found a pentastome in the lung of a snake! The parasite was too degraded, but we found some eggs to make the diagnosis!! Very #classic (and pretty) eggs with the developing larvae. 🐍🌈 #vetparasitology #scienceisart
