"We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words." Ursula K. Le Guin End #Capitalism

🇨🇴🇦🇷 Gustavo Petro asks the question the West does not want answered. "If Argentina is an exporter of quality meat, why can't Argentinians eat quality meat and are stuck eating donkey meat?" That is not just a question about Argentina. That is a question about the entire Global South. Countries rich in resources. Oil. Gold. Lithium. Cocoa. Coffee. Beef. Yet their own people cannot afford what they produce. Argentina exports premium beef to Europe and China. Argentinians eat donkey meat. Nigeria exports oil. Nigerians queue for hours for subsidized fuel. DRC exports cobalt. Congolese miners live on less than $2 a day. Ghana exports cocoa. Ghanaian children have never tasted quality chocolate. The system is designed to extract, not to feed. Produce for the West. Starve at home. Petro is right. This cannot happen in Colombia. And it should not happen anywhere in Africa or the Global South. The question is not why Argentinians eat donkey meat. The question is who profits from that arrangement. It's time to change the answer.

There are 56 ethnicities in China—and 55 are getting squashed. A new law passed by the Chinese legislature is a grim milestone in the Communist Party’s harder-line approach to ethnic politics econ.st/4vK4oX4

Iran’s regime hangs democracy activists, burns protesters, shoots women for removing hijabs, and exports terror into Canadian communities. Liberals looked at that regime and with its deafening silence at the UN said: same side. Then they denied it.

“We are in danger of producing an educated proletariat.” — Roger Freeman, adviser to Reagan and Nixon, arguing for limits on access to education. The US is functionally illiterate by design. Literacy is a tool of freedom, something that is intolerable in the land of the free.

For people in Europe, one of the most important objectives for political mobilisation now is to remove the US military bases. They are a menace to humanity, they are a threat to popular sovereignty, and every one of them must be closed.

@stephenfgordon this is capitalist realism - the belief that there is no alternative. most mainstream economists have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo. thankfully people are starting to see that there is nothing behind the curtain - except sad little men who can offer us nothing

Any competent economist can explain why this idea is dumber than a sack of hammers. Avi Lewis doesn't care, because he knows - as all Canadian economists do - that Canadian economics journalism sucks ass. He knows he will never be called out on this idiocy.
Scott Robertson@sarobertsonca

Avi Lewis: "We have a very clear plan to cut grocery prices by 30-40% for Canadians at a cost to the federal government ... We'd subsidize it. It costs $350m to launch and $300m a year, which is one-half of 1% of the current defence budget."

Listened to Liberal environment minister @juliedabrusin implicitly lie on tonight's @PnPCBC. She claimed that it was the @liberal_party that passed same-sex marriage in Canada. Dabrusin is pitching the stock Liberal lie that it is the party of rights. This must be understood. The Liberals never--yes, never--advance or protect rights unless forced to by courts. The only Liberal Prime Minister that ever advanced rights was Pierre Trudeau. None since. Certainly not @MarkJCarney. We have same-sex marriage in Canada today, because the courts ruled that banning same sex marriage offended Section 15 of Pierre Trudeau's Charter and Rights and Freedom. Yes, technically the Liberals passed the laws making same-sex marriage legal, but they only did it because they were forced to by the courts. They had no choice. Bottom line for Canadians? Liberals never protect anyone's rights, ever. Still not sure? See the abuse provinces are visiting with impunity on Canadians' rights by using the notwithstanding clause, all with the Liberals tacit approval and blind eye. When you hear Liberals talk about defending rights, they're lying. They never defend rights. Never.

This isn’t a verdict on universal healthcare—it’s a receipt for austerity. ER wait times don’t come from “too much public care,” they come from too little funding, too few staff, and decades of capitalist market logic hollowing out public systems. Scarcity is managed neglect.
MatrixMysteries@MatrixMysteries

A Canadian woman with a swollen appendix was told to go to the emergency room. She shows the wait time screen. Over 15 HOURS to see a doctor. And she says she had already been waiting 3 hours. This is universal healthcare in Canada.

Quite a thing, in my view, that Prime Minister @MarkJCarney and all of his @liberal_party MPs believe that is a good thing that they have no values, principles, or ethics beyond making money. Sure, they talk about values, in the abstract, but they reject any policies that protect them, advance them, or even take them into account. And that is what they all believe is wonderful about being Liberal: a value-free political party.

What Ibrahim Traoré has said about not believing in “democracy” will shock the liberals, but only because they treat the word as sacred rather than material. From a historic class perspective he’s not rejecting people having power, he’s rejecting the lie that the West already provides it. What passes for “democracy” in countries like United Kingdom or United States is nothing more than managed consent. Political parties share policies and rotate in and out, but the ownership of industry, media, land and finance stays in the hands of the ruling class. Workers are invited to tick a box, but never any real say in governance. That is not democracy in any meaningful sense; it’s class dictatorship. Traoré cuts through that illusion. In a country like Burkina Faso, long suffocated by imperialism, plundered resources, and foreign interference, “democracy” has historically meant compliant governments serving imperialism. Rejecting that model is not authoritarianism that the western media portrays it as; it’s a recognition that a revolution must serve the liberation of the people, not mimic dangerous Western institutions. "In capitalist society, providing it develops under the most favourable conditions, we have a more or less complete democracy in the democratic republic. But this democracy is always hemmed in by the narrow limits set by capitalist exploitation, and consequently always remains, in effect, a democracy for the minority, only for the propertied classes, only for the rich. Freedom in capitalist society always remains about the same as it was in the ancient Greek republics: freedom for the slave-owners." - Lenin, State and Revolution. Lenin is clear on this: the state is not neutral. There is no abstract “democracy” floating above class interests. There is only rule by one class or another. The question is simple — who holds power, and in whose interests is it exercised? The West lectures the world about democracy while crushing any system that threatens capitalist dominance. Traoré is exposing that contradiction. Real democracy isn’t a ballot paper under capitalism, it’s the working class holding power, controlling production, and shaping society in its own interests.
