@O1ionheart Depends on your goal. Mine is to hold my own against JP uchishis in a battle or when recording with them. If you want to only hang out with Chinese torch bros, by all means go ahead and ignore power kei lol

@Th3rdEye_ Oh in that case I completely agree with you. I was thinking more in the frame that not everyone has to torch or pick complicated wazas that other people are doing.

I'm so glad I flew to Japan for WWC. Getting to see and talk to uchishis I've looked up to for years, and seeing the endless creativity of the pros, really has me fired up more than any other time in my wotagei journey. I realize I have a very, very, long way to go. A thread 🧵

@O1ionheart Yes, but only after you've gotten all your fundamentals at a high enough base level. For example, I'm not good at Muramasa-like wazas with slashes, but I still force myself to practice it more precisely because I need to. I can't just focus on torch, for instance,

@Th3rdEye_ Isn't it natural to pick and hone waza that matches your style? I think it is even more important to find an area you excel and keep working on that area so that you can have a few really good waza, as opposed to trying and sucking at everything.

emotions from the team battle winners at WWC last night and the top 8 soloists were nothing to scoff at, and I see how much wotagei and this event mean to their lives and fulfillment as individuals. I can't helped but be impressed and want to follow that myself.
