@TrueAIHound @krichard121212 @fchollet I think the process is important in the sense of "understating why something came to be can be helpful" Why raises a question: "If we can't interface our brains with a computer easily, why would 'agi' be able to do it?"

In my view, it doesn't matter how the human brain came to existence. What's important is that it was not programmed for computers, telephones, the internet, automobiles, music appreciation, the arts, etc. There are many in the fake-AI community who continually bring up evolution. What advantage has it afforded them? I don't see it. I never think about it. The fake-AI community is still as clueless about intelligence as they were when the field was founded some 70 years ago. They are probably even worse off now ever since they became stuck with DL, a local optimum of their own making that they can't seem to shake.

No AGI for the Frenchman. @fchollet thinks that AGI may arrive as early as 2030 based on current progress in LLMs and side bets on deep learning-based research being conducted at his AGI startup, Ndea, and other labs. Strangely enough, my own estimate coincides with Chollet's AGI timeline. However, I don't believe for a second that any method invented by the fake-AI community since its inception some 70 years ago will play a role in the solution. My bet is that AGI is a neuroscience problem. I used to admire Chollet. That was before I realized that he was fully committed to deep learning, last century's boomer AI that has failed miserably to solve intelligence. Chollet's faith in LLMs is also very odd and may be a political move to attract funding. This is lame and not very brave imo. Solving AGI requires rigorous mental discipline and brutal honesty of thought. Of course, Chollet's ARC-AGI benchmark is a farce, a total waste of time. No one needs a benchmark to gauge progress toward solving AGI. Intelligence is not an engineering problem that improves over time. The principles of intelligence are universal. Either you solve it or you don't. No AGI for the Frenchman, I'm afraid. 😀

@NicotoraH Mushoku Tensei is the perfect example of a good ending. I don’t know why no one can replicate that, it’s not even that hard, but every author either overcomplicates things or just gets bored by the time they have to end it.

Throughout history, mankind has periodically gone through periods of insanity. The 30 Years’ War and the witch trials of the 17th century are examples. Mass psychosis seemed to take over the whole world in the 1930s and ’40s. The recent great COVID hysteria is another. What the world is going through now is equally serious. For instance, Britain is prosecuting over 10,000 people for simply saying something that might make somebody else feel bad. Europe is simultaneously de-industrializing and turning into a police state while it learns to hate itself and imports millions of indigent people from alien cultures, races, languages, and religions. Wokeism is entrenched as a mass psychosis throughout Western Europe and North America. The U.S. launching a sneak attack during negotiations, starting an unprovoked war against a country on the other side of the world because it was using harsh language, is a sign of the times. Hopefully not the End Times. But it appears that elements of the three Abrahamic religions believe they’re following orders from Jesus, Yahweh, or Allah to Immanentize the Eschaton. Whether you like it or not. My view is that, when the world is going crazy, you want to get away from the craziness. Physically distance yourself from irrational people and unstable places. This is a bad time to be in most stocks. Limit your exposure to fiat currencies and bonds. Avoid living in big cities. This is a good time to keep a low profile. If I valued the opinions and likely reactions of Boobus americanus, I wouldn’t write articles like this. If only because, as a fan of Homer, I’m aware of what happened to the Trojan princess Cassandra.
