The motel manager, 50-year-old Chandra Nagamallaiah, told an employee/maintenance worker, 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, not to use the broken machine. Cobos-Martinez became enraged because the manager had used a co-worker to translate the instruction rather than speaking to him directly. The Attack Cobos-Martinez pulled out a machete and began attacking Nagamallaiah. The manager fled across the parking lot toward the motel's front office screaming for help. The attacker chased him down and continued the assault in front of the manager's wife and son, who ran out and desperately tried to intervene. The Gruesome Details Cobos-Martinez pushed the family away, fatally stabbed the manager, and beheaded him. Witnesses and local police reported that the attacker kicked the victim's decapitated head across the parking lot before picking it up and placing it in a nearby trash bin. The Aftermath Cobos-Martinez was arrested by police blocks away from the motel shortly after the incident. He was covered in blood and found to be in possession of the machete.
