I'm not going to make any evaluations of Brady as a commentator nine minutes into his first game. He's clearly trying to find his rhythm, catch up to the game, and get past some first-time jitters.

This is exactly the point that working historians keep making. The debates in 1787-89 were always (ALWAYS) about the militia and never about a personal (we could say common law) right of self-defense. Madison, the main author, would be stupefied by this whole line of crazy cases.

Here's a take on the "dark forest", why we don't hear alien radio. Nearby aliens pick up our earliest radio signals about now. They have telescopes and quickly work out where we are, distance, and some basics of our planet, such as atmospheric spectroscopy. Even if they have near light speed rockets, they can estimate our metabolic rate from our planet's surface temp and realize by the time they get here, in say another century or a millennium or whatever, we will have passed beyond the technology event horizon and will have warp drive, ASI, etc, and will be unconquerable. Best for them to stay quiet until we figure things out. Has this take been treated in fiction?
