Also he’s quality as a starter in domestic cup/European matches for the most part. They usually give him far too much space and time on the ball and he was averaging a goal + assist every other game. But for the league he has to be a rotation option otherwise he’s toothless.

Gakpo is a fantastic back-up utility player that should be rotating with a pacey winger who exhausts their defensive line before he’s brought on. Thats how we got 20+ G/As a season from him previously with Diaz. Otherwise he’s ineffective.

Who is a player that got thrown under the bus in a major way this season. Konate & Mac Allister deserve significantly more flack for their performances this season. Gakpo was overused in a huge way & frankly did his best, even if it was poor. I can’t say the same for the latter.

@atfoxriver I don’t think Gakpo is going anywhere, specially with Slot around. And I do think he will improve once we have a full time pacey winger starting ahead of him again. Macca feels like he’s aged 5 years over the summer it’s insane
