Joe Flaherty was indeed one of a kind; he was there from 1974 when we first opened Second City at the Old Firehall in Toronto. Both directing and performing, Joe was nothing short of a godsend to me. I was a neophyte I learnt so much from him, his enthusiasm for the work was infectious. It was clear that it was not just a passion but his life calling. Then, when we embarked on launching SCTV in 1976, Joe became the undeniable anchor of the show. His dedication to the show was unparalleled, he was a wonderful collaborator, and his insights were invaluable, often elevating the material to heights not imagined. Beyond his talents, what stood out was Joe's love of the show; he was the heart. His legacy is not just the work he created but the love he had for his children Gabe and Gudrun, they both brought so much joy into his life. He will be long remembered.
