The Muslim Cowboy has committed shirk. Jesus was declaring His divinity by stating He is the Way, Truth, and Life in John 14:6.
In Islam, only Allah can call himself the truth or life, as they are related to two of his 99 names, Al-Haqq (The Truth), and Al-Hayy (The Living). In fact, in the 10th century a Sufi, named Al-Hallaj was killed for stating "I am the Truth."
Muhammad is not the truth and never will be. Jesus is the Truth because He is God.
