Only about 5% of college baseball players are freshmen playing at the D1 level. Less than 1% of high school players end up on a D1 roster as a freshman.

High school hitters that bat in the middle of the order get pitched to with more focus. This is a good thing as they can develop more discipline with their strike zone and approach. It will only get more difficult in college when there are advanced scouting reports.
