@bleacherbum099 Yeah, like I said at the end of that thread, he's just a little off & potentially pulling off the ball a little bit as he tries to *drive* the ball more to LF.
I know people freak out with age/declines/etc, but odds are he figures it out. Been fine aside from the lack of power.

For Alex Bregman, there's a pretty simple issue for him so far- hitting the ball into the ground too much.
His 45.1% groundball rate is easily the highest of his career (previous high was 40.8% in 2021), and his flyball rate is easily the lowest of his career. (cont)

I feel like a few of those barrels turned into CF outs.
Guessing he's tried to get the pull power going, which potentially has led to rolling over groundballs as he tries to lock in.
He has a track record & is obsessed with correcting these things, so we should assume he does.

The Statcast/batted-ball data is fine... you'll just notice the launch angle at a career-low, which is to be expected with the groundball/flyball data I just shared. (cont)

Over the last three weeks, PCA is hitting .270/.361/.444/130 wRC+. Maybe it lasts, maybe it doesn't, but I don't get the folks who act like he hasn't had ANY good stretches at the plate since early last year.

Detroit ace Tarik Skubal will undergo surgery to remove loose bodies in his left elbow. Such procedures typically sideline players for 2-3 months. Skubal should return before season's end, but a tough blow for the impending free agent and two-time reigning AL Cy Young winner.

I agree (in theory)... the sinker has been a true game-changer.
It's also hard to move off his bullpen role this season with their need there (or at least unless there are more SP injuries). But, right now, I'd guess that he gets another SP look by next spring, anyway.

Brown is probably down after 2 innings Monday, 1 inning on Wednesday. Vargas has annihilated lefties, Carroll has reverse splits himself (annihilated lefties), and Marte might be the best hitter vs lefties in the world on the bench. So, there's just not a clear-cut choice.
