I tested Xpeng's VLA 2.0 in the streets of Beijing, and it is comparable to my experience of daily driving Tesla FSD v14. Xpeng is not charging $100 a month to drive this. It is inlcuded in its higher-trim vehicles and it already caught the attention of Volkswagen, which is going to integrate into its own vehicles - something Tesla hasn't been able to do despite trying. I heard that the internal testing version of Tesla V14 in China does not even show a detailed version number. It only says “V14,” and the gear-shifting function has also been removed. If this is really the version that eventually gets pushed to customers, then I will be completely disappointed in Tesla China’s management. I want to state my view again: Tesla China should not keep blaming external factors. There will always be external factors to point to. If the leadership team in China never dares to take responsibility, is always afraid of taking the blame, and continues to operate with heavy bureaucracy, Tesla China will keep going downhill. Europe has extremely strict regulatory review, yet Tesla can still push the full version there. So why can’t China do the same? Back then, the original and strongest Tesla was able to become the first wholly foreign-owned automaker in China. Why is it that today, Tesla China can no longer even handle FSD properly? The only real change is that the management has become incompetent, shortsighted, and bureaucratic.

其实最让老车主不解的，就是Elon这个Microfactory用词，啥意思？拆装AI Computer+8个摄像头还得流水线？一向讲究第一性的特斯拉啥时候两部分工作也要组流水线了？不就是小作坊么？难道还需要现场制作板卡？得州超级工厂就腾不出来一个角落做这个制作的事情？难道FSD老车主有那么多么？Elon之前不是说“幸好”很少么？

I am a Chinese FSD user, and I’d like to explain the current situation: 1. In February 2025, Tesla China launched FSD V13.2.6 and started a trial campaign. However, the trial was suspended after just one week. 2. A few days later, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released new regulations on intelligent driving. The suspension of the FSD trial and the halt of widespread rollout are largely related to these new regulations. 3. Since then, all vehicles produced after February 2025 are unable to use FSD. As a result, only a very small number of users in China can currently access FSD. 4. The FSD version in China has remained stuck at V13.2.9 and has not been supported by localized training data. Interestingly, almost all autonomous driving software launched by Chinese local car manufacturers have been approved, with the sole exception of Tesla — even though Tesla’s software experience is far superior to the others, not to mention FSD itself.

Last week we took our family to Beijing for an educational trip (研學). For many, Beijing was a place of the Forbidden City, Imperial Gardens, and the Great Wall—but for us, it was the place where we had studied many times in textbooks since elementary school that the history of China had forked. The beauty of the ancient buildings was a constant reminder of the fall of the late Qing (清) and the price it paid for missing two industrial revolutions. Without advanced technology (船堅炮利), the great heritage would not have been able to protect itself from foreign invasion. Everywhere you went, you could always see “勿忘國恥” written with so much agony and pain. For over a hundred years, it has still motivated the city to move forward despite many political movements had passed. Throughout the trip, we insisted on using a Chinese tour guide for our kid with no English translation so that she could at least get a little context of the history of this city, and a lesson as she grows up as an American. Technology is the might of a nation and shall not be taken for granted.
