This wouldn’t even have been a fight, that hand movement from Azula looked like she was about to use lightning.

Ty Lee denied us this fight between Azula and Mai. Azula would crush her, but it would've been worth a watch

Because Korras team is not supposed to be a formed family dynamic to begin with.
ALTA presents Team Avatar as a tight-knit found family formed through surviving war together constantly on the road, while The Legend of Korra intentionally portrays a more modern, emotionally messy friend group made up of teenagers and young adults with careers, romantic complications, personal insecurities, and separate responsibilities. The distance is part of the writing, not a failure of it.
Aang’s group represents unity formed through shared survival, while Korra’s represents connection maintained despite emotional messiness and adulthood pulling people in different directions.

Korra’s team never felt like a real family to me, often times it felt like shipping drama especially when mako or bolin was involved

Its been a decade already and people still misunderstand the Avatar State as some automatic “save me” button when the franchise repeatedly shows it’s tied just as much to spiritual condition, emotional state, and circumstance as physical danger.
Avatar Roku died exhausted, aged, isolated, and spiritually at peace with sacrificing himself for his people. Korra, on the other hand, fought against death with every ounce of instinct she had while being violently poisoned and psychologically tortured. The Avatar State responding differently says less about inconsistency and more about the philosophy of survival itself.
One accepted death as duty. The other clawed her way back from it through sheer willpower.

Emmanuel@emmywayne64
If the avatar state is a defense mechanism that kicks in when the avatar’s life is endangered, why then didn’t Roku’s kick in like Korra’s as he choked on poisonous volcanic air?

Amon takes away bending by using an advanced form of bloodbending.
Instead of controlling someone’s body like normal bloodbenders, he precisely blocks and damages the chi pathways connected to bending.
He uses it to permanently disrupt a person’s connection to their element, making it seem almost like energy bending. This is why people in LOK thought he had some kind of divine power until Korra exposed him has a blood bender .
The reason it looked so terrifying is because only Aang had ever truly removed bending before, but Aang used energybending spiritually, while Amon forced it biologically through bloodbending.
