On this day in 1900, William Randolph Hearst hosted a charity bazaar in New York City to benefit the Galveston Orphans’ Home’s damage from the 1900's Storm. Hearst's 1900 benefit gala in New York raised $50,000. (equivalent to $1,830,000 in 2024)
