Visited our CRE teacher at Kigezi High School in the 90s, omugurusi Kaakaabaale, who is now 90 years old, but remains as humorous and kind, like he was 30 years ago, when he taught about man in a changing society.
He rejects being called Mzee, but prefers, the appropriate Rukiga word, omugurusi, which means an elder of many years.
From his home at Rugarama Hill in Kabale, I got the opportunity to hear his numerous stories and experiences from the past and present, and to thank him for putting a brick in building us into what we are and are becoming.

I would like to sincerely apologise to the Banyankore community and all fellow Ugandans who felt offended by my remarks discouraging the practice of fattening young girls before marriage. I am truly sorry for any hurt or discomfort I may have caused.
My intention was never to disrespect our culture, but rather to raise awareness about the health risks associated with this practice, as many continue to struggle with related illnesses. I spoke out of concern and in good faith.
Please remember, I am one of you—we share the same roots and identity. Let us come together with understanding, move forward positively, and continue learning—especially about nutrition and health—for the well-being of our communities.
Let us put this behind us and keep building together.

UPDATE:
The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) @MODVA_UPDF, operating under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), together with the Somali National Army (SNA), have captured a senior Al-Shabaab commander alive during a coordinated operation in the general area of Mubaraka.
The suspect, identified as Salaad Cusmaan Macalin, alias “Sahm,” was apprehended on Wednesday in the north-western outskirts of Mubaraka by AUSSOM troops and the SNA Gorgor Unit 203.
Macalin, 40, is a battalion commander within the Al-Shabaab ranks.
At the time of his capture, Macalin was reportedly conducting reconnaissance on SNA defensive positions in preparation for an imminent attack on Mubaraka. He was allegedly operating alongside a group of fighters, including about 17 foreign militants who had recently moved from Jilib to Ugunji.
The Sector One Commander, Brigadier General Jackson Kayanja, commended the troops for the successful operation, describing it as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to degrade Al-Shabaab capabilities in the area.
He urged local leaders and members of the community to continue cooperating with security forces in order to strengthen stability and enhance security.
The UPDF troops under AUSSOM, in partnership with the Somali National Army, to neutralise terrorist threats and support ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security in Somalia.
