What he's tryna say is that, without FIFA backing Argentina they are not better than the England national team.
Very easy to understand.

🎙️ Xabi Alonso’s first Chelsea press conference told you everything.
Not through what he said. Through what he confirmed.
Listen to the actual structure of his answers. Not the hunger. Not the mentality. Not the excitement about Cole Palmer’s quality. Strip all of that out, every new Chelsea manager has said every version of those words, and what you’re left with is this:
“Working together with the sporting directors.”
“We need to make the right decisions.”
“We are aligned.”
“We have said our priorities.”
Four years. Four managers. One constant.
The sporting directors are still the sentence. Alonso is still the subject.
That’s not a criticism of Alonso the coach. It’s an observation about Chelsea the institution. Because the fans who spent this summer telling themselves Alonso was arriving to reshape the power structure at this club just watched him publicly confirm he’s operating within it. His first press conference wasn’t a declaration of authority. It was an orientation speech.
And that matters because of what’s happened in the weeks before it.
Cucurella, gone. Verbal agreement to Real Madrid before Alonso took a single training session.
Enzo Fernandez, £120m valuation still live, the market still being tested, his future still “private.”
Garnacho, “hopefully it finishes in the best possible way for other clubs.” That’s not a manager protecting a player. That’s a manager managing the exit language.
Santos, Sold to Manchester United.
Now Alonso stands at a microphone and says he wants to keep Enzo. Fine. But the club had a price tag on Enzo before Alonso arrived. The sporting directors he’s now “aligned” with set that price. So what exactly does “I want to keep him” mean when the structure around you has already told the market he’s available at a number?
That’s the contradiction the press conference didn’t resolve. It couldn’t. Because press conferences don’t resolve structural contradictions. Decisions do.
And here’s the part that gets buried under the optimism every single time Chelsea appoints a manager with real credentials:
Pochettino was respected. Said the right things. Aligned with the directors. Gone in a year.
Maresca was sharp. Talked about process and identity. Aligned with the directors. Gone in a season.
The model didn’t change for either of them. The model absorbed them. And when results didn’t justify the turbulence, the model produced a new name, a new press conference, a new round of hunger and mentality and excitement.
Alonso is the best version of that name Chelsea have ever chosen. His Leverkusen record is genuine. His presence commands real respect. None of that is in question.
What’s in question is whether this institution is capable of changing underneath him, or whether it will do what it always does: use a credible manager’s reputation as a shield while the same decisions get made by the same people for the same reasons.
The press conference sounded like a man joining a club.
Chelsea fans were hoping for a man arriving to change one.😂
Those are two different things. And the summer’s decisions, not today’s words, will tell us definitively which one this actually is. Because behaviour has always been more honest and louder than any PR.
Watch the structure. Not the presentation. #CFC 💙
