@KySportsRadio Hunter Dickinson just said his last year the whole team wanted to season to end because of Kansas fans. Every fanbase has the idiots. UK can’t get recruits because of the fans is a lame excuse.

Yeah it couldn’t be that since that time, the team has struggled through missing the Tournament, two embarrassing First Round losses, not starting two top 10 picks and a “Ferrari” season ending in mediocrity It’s gotta be the fans’ fault. 🙄
Thrill Keightley@Cincitucky1

Hearing that both Mark Pope and John Calipari have privately vented that UK’s fanbase has negatively affected recruiting since 2020. Other schools use the fanbase and the negativity against UK and it has cost multiple elite recruits.

@KyleTuckerCBB Year 1 A Year 2 D Year 3 will be make or break it for me personally and I’m not optimistic. Best freshmen class maybe ever and we had none of them. We have zero players signed for next year. He has been weird with the media/messaging all year. I don’t think he’s built for this

Curious where Kentucky fans stand after two years of Mark Pope. Sweet 16 last season, epic first-round win and second-round blowout loss this season. 1) Grade the Pope era so far. 2) What must happen next season to feel confident?

@DanWolken He was always going to get a 3rd year but a lot of the fanbase was already unhappy with him prior to today

I don’t think Mark Pope is or should be in trouble this year but this performance is going to leave a very very bad taste over the next eight months

@KySportsRadio “His long-term contract always contemplated a role at the university and that he would be compensated by Athletics after he stepped down as AD.” — so why did the initial release say the university would pay his salary, not athletics?

I asked Eli Capiuloto for a statement about the decision to give Mitch Barnhart nearly $2 million more in salary from his original contract upon retirement. They sent me this statement: “Mitch Barnhart is the most successful athletics director in UK history, from six national championships to historic levels of academic performance among our students. His long-term contract always contemplated a role at the university and that he would be compensated by Athletics after he stepped down as AD. And that contract has always been public.    “What has changed is clarity and purpose. Rather than a vague, undefined post‑AD role, Mitch now has a clearly structured position that allows him to deliver real impact: co‑leading a university‑wide initiative to strengthen Kentucky’s workforce, specifically by growing and supporting the sports‑related workforce in our state. Few people in the country are better positioned to do that work than Mitch, given his decades of leadership, national reputation and contacts, and deep understanding of the industry.   “His compensation is in line with what comparable institutions have paid for similar transitions — and the role itself is more robust, more accountable, and more critical to the university’s mission. Importantly, this does not detract from the Athletics Department’s capacity in any way.   “In June, the UK Board of Trustees authorized an internal university loan of up to $110 million for athletics to invest in facilities and future growth as well as up $31 million in operational funds for athletics. The idea is to help ensure our success and the standards of excellence our fans expect. We are investing in the success of UK Athletics more than ever before because it is so crucial to UK and our mission to advance Kentucky.”   – Jay Blanton
