Assistant track coach arrested on child exploitation charges in Fairfax County, Virginia 🚨 A Hayfield Secondary School assistant track coach has been arrested and charged with multiple counts related to child sexual abuse material in Fairfax County. Richard Huerta, 28, of Kingstowne, faces ten counts of possession of child sexual abuse material following an investigation by Fairfax County Police’s Child Exploitation Unit. The investigation began after detectives received a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children indicating Huerta may have been in possession of illegal material. Authorities subsequently executed several search warrants and found electronic evidence tied to the allegations. Huerta was arrested at his residence and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond. Fairfax County Public Schools officials said Huerta had been employed as an assistant coach since August 2025. The school system is in the process of terminating his contract, and he will not return to the school. #NoVa

‘BLOODBATH’: Fairfax County Police shot and killed a man who had murdered his wife and daughter inside of an apartment in northern Virginia. A third victim is fighting for his life. Police were called out to the 3900 block of Persimmon Drive (just outside of Fairfax, VA) this morning to encounter a “bloodbath of a scene.” The suspect, armed with a curved 10-inch knife, had been actively stabbing his son-in-law. After officers issued several commands to drop the weapon, an officer shot and killed the man. It was also determined that he had stabbed both his daughter and wife, who have both been pronounced dead. A 1-year old was also inside of the apartment at the time. License Plate Reader (LPR) technology leads officers to stolen auto arrest 🚙🚓🚓 This afternoon members of your @mcpnews 3rd District Community Action Team (DCAT) received an LPR hit for a stolen auto that was traveling south on New Hampshire Avenue near Chalmers Rd in the Hillandale area of Silver Spring. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle which subsequently rammed into two community members' vehicles before getting stuck in traffic. Officers had to break out the car window and were then able to quickly take the suspect into custody without further issues. The car was stolen and the license plate was also stolen from a different vehicle. The adult male arrestee was taken to central processing and booked. License Plate Reader (LPR) technology has provided some great successes locating felony vehicles and apprehending dangerous criminals. #MCPD #publicsafety

BREAKING: 3rd Suspect Arrested for September murder in North Bethesda, MD. Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police - Major Crimes Division, Homicide Unit have a third suspect in custody in connection to a September 2025 homicide. On March 17, 2026, MCPD detectives assigned to the U.S. Marshals Task Force, along with 1st District Special Assignment Team (SAT) officers, located the third suspect, 25-year-old Justin Michael Green Collins, at a residence in District Heights and stopped him in Washington, D.C., where he was taken into custody. Collins, of Silver Spring, remained outstanding following the shooting death of 29-year-old Akwalabeng Fontava inside Fontava’s North Bethesda apartment on Sunday, September 21, 2025. Following the shooting, a man and a woman inside the apartment were allegedly kidnapped and later released. Sheldon Milan Boykins was arrested that same day. The second suspect, Joshua Carter, was apprehended in Fayetteville, North Carolina, at a family member’s residence. He was extradited to Montgomery County on October 24, 2025. Collins’s mother, 46-year-old Shatym Neko Sanderson, of Silver Spring, was arrested on November 12, 2025, and charged with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder. Homicide detectives determined that Collins’s mother helped him financially while he was on the run. Justin Collins is currently being held in Washington, D.C., on handgun possession charges related to his arrest on March 17. Sanderson was released in January of 2026 on a $5,000 unsecured personal bond. Both Boykins and Carter are currently being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where they are awaiting trial. Collins pictured below.
