This account is now dedicated to posting a picture and some details about a single ocean liner every single day! An ocean liner is a large passenger transportation ship. I hope you all can come to appreciate these awesome feats of engineering as much as I do! 🖤🤍⚓️🤍🖤

Anyways, here's a picture of the safety beacon put on the rock that SS Princess Sophia was grounded on. I'm super bummed out after looking into this extremely sad story, so I'm going to go watch, like, Amazing World of Gumball or some shit.

Today's liner is SS Princess Sophia, a Scottish-built (Bow, McLachlan and Company), Canadian-operated passenger liner. She belonged to the Canadian Pacific Railway and served a route between Vancouver, Victoria (where she was registered), other areas of Canada, and Alaska.⬇️

The co-ordination of rescue efforts proved difficult, and a second distress call was sent informing that the ship was foundering and, eventually, much more urgently, that various rooms of the ship were flooding. Still, conditions made rescue impossible. The two ships intended ⬇️

Afterwards, they carried on with her scrapping. This was completed by 1961. By all accounts, the ship had an excellent career and completed several transatlantic voyages as a staple of upper-class ocean travel. Notably, she is a very beautiful ship visually. Just look at her!!

however, she played the SS Claridon in the disaster film The Last Voyage. Certain areas of the ship were actually flooded for shots in the film. ⬇️

Today is SS Île de France’s day! Laid down in 1925 and launched the following year, this luxury vessel was created by major shipbuilding company Ateliers et Chantiers de Saint-Nazaire Penhoët for the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, AKA the French Line. She bore many other ⬇️
