Female genital schistosomiasis is often referred to as the neglected of neglected diseases. Despite affecting an estimated 56 million females across Africa, it is still too often misdiagnosed as a sexually transmitted infection or even cervical cancer. bit.ly/443LpKX

Up to 56 million females across Africa are estimated to be affected by female genital schistosomiasis, a stigmatized and source of increased domestic violence in women falsely diagnosed and accused of harboring a sexually transmitted disease. bit.ly/49oLeNI

In Kenya, visceral leishmaniasis, spurred by a lack of available blood, is rampant. If left untreated, the disease fatality rate is 95%, but with treatment that can be reduced to as little as 3%. Learn more about the efforts to control the disease: bit.ly/4i1N1um

Last week, six runners took on the @nycmarathon to raise funding and awareness for NTDs. Together, they raised $25,000 to support deworming and trachoma elimination efforts in the DRC, which was generously matched by the Jackson Kemper Foundation, for a total of $50,000!
