And, Nvidia erased -$500 billion in market cap in 3 days after Jensen Huang said China was "nanoseconds behind" the US on AI. Markets have simply become highly reactive to ANY headline. The reality is that the S&P 500 averages at least 3 declines of -5% or more PER YEAR, despite averaging a +10% annual gain. If the index is able to rally 40%+ in 6 months, then a downturn of 5% to 10% is completely normal. The most successful investors will weather the volatility with conviction. We are in the midst of a generational technological revolution. Don't let the volatility scare you.

Employment at US small businesses is falling: US small businesses shed -10,000 jobs in October, according to the ADP Employment Report. This marks the 5th monthly decline over the last 6 months. As a result, the 3-month average of job losses fell to -29,333, the highest since the 2020 pandemic. The 3-month average has been in a firm downtrend since November 2024. Small businesses are cutting jobs at a crisis pace.

Container shipping traffic from China to the US is in freefall: The cargo vessel count from China to the US has dropped to 41, the lowest since February 2024. The number of large cargo ships has declined -30, or -42%, over the last 3 weeks. This is well below the average of ~60 over the last 18 months. As a result, total cargo volumes have HALVED to ~300,000 TEUs, where one TEU equals a standard shipping container, the lowest since at least January 2024. Combined cargo volumes from all major Asian exporters have also fallen to ~700,000 TEUs, the lowest since February 2024. US-China trade is rapidly slowing.
