In the end, we did everything we could today. It’s somewhat a good summary of our season that we needed the results of other games to go our way in order to creep into the playoffs. But it just wasn’t to be. It’s an odd season in that no one has really stamped authority on the league. But you have to say, @WorthingFC are worthy winners having been so close on a number of occasions before. Good to see an ex stone @R_degraft grab the goal that sealed it too! As for us, the season obviously ends today. It’s easy to look back on points we’ve dropped however, I’ll say the same thing I said last year. What if we got promoted? Would that really go well for us? Or actually, just cause the club to incur more losses and come straight back down again? I think the ownership situation needs to stabilise first and hopefully that comes over the summer, then the club can have a clear vision. It’s hard to see what that vision is right now. What do I think this club needs right now? 1. To retain at least half the playing squad over the summer so we can build some consistency for once. That includes retaining Riley Court who, in my opinion, will be in the top 5 players in the league next year. 2. Improve match day experience. It’s dreadfully dull at the Gallagher before kickoff. And attendances have suffered as a result. 3. Ownership. This simply needs to change asap. Not because I dislike the current owners - they’ll always be recognised for bringing football back to the heart of Maidstone. But they’ve clearly checked out and the playing budget will only grow smaller until they sell. Overall, I think the season met expectations. I thought we might just creep into the playoffs but finishing 8th is as close as you can get! As for the players - a really good bunch! We didn’t really have anyone this year that was a clear standout in terms of performances but we did have a few that did their bits over the season. And the growth of Riley Court has been incredible to witness. Sad to see George go but that was inevitable. I hope he gets a job higher up. Another fun year of doing @stoneslive too! Well then, guess I’ll have to find something to do between now and pre-season. COYS! 🖤💛
