Judging for the second round of The Hat Designer of the Year 2011, which took place at the offices of Première Classe in Paris.

I selected this wonderful feather hat from @snoxhat1 shown at Pure London. It’s a real show stopper I said…“yes, you need great ideas, luxurious materials, humour in abundance, respect and love to make exquisite hats like these” they replied! @PureLondonShow @exacteditions

I was saddened to hear of the death of the famous Parisian milliner Jacques Pinturier, whose contemporary works of art ‘playing with fantasy’ were always so young and so exciting. Portrait from Atelier-Musée du Chapeau by Daniel Ulmer.

I took photographs of The Queen & Prince Philip at Royal Ascot. Searching back through the years this was his last time I saw them travelling along the famous ‘Straight Mile’ and into the parade ring, where the excited crowds, waved, clapped and sent up a huge cheer!

Our Easter cover shows a pretty & feminine hat in black crinn trimmed with satin ribbon. So we typed “bonnet” into our search box within The HAT Archive and discovered a variety of wonderful styles presented under that label. The HAT Archive is available by subscription.

Our Workroom Sketchbook of ‘themed Inspiration’ has always been a sought after section of our magazine. In Issue 56, Rachel Richardson took a contemporary slant on a young, feminine style with her Rockabilly spread.

The HAT archive covered Royal Ascot for 18 years in detail-the hats, the milliners, the ensembles, and ambiance for a wealth of international visitors from around the globe. I doubt that there was ever such coverage of this very British event by one publication!
