Dear Ubisoft,
Black Flag Resynced is a fantastic game, but please can we move away from this. You have the resources, developers, tools, time, literally everything at your disposal. Just move on from this. It's been like this for 9 years straight. It was funny the first time in Odyssey. But it's in every single game. Have some AAA standards. Imagine the new story content in Resynced was mocapped instead of every cutscene looking like this. How can people be invested in these characters when they recycle the same 4/5 gestures on a loop?
Just compare this to any main story cutscene in pretty much every AC game before 2018. Those characters had personality because their performances were literally acted by real people. It's hard to stay invested when every conversation is this soulless.

Yeah, I understand the RPG AC cutscenes. I know it's impossible to mocap everything in a gigantic game like Odyssey. I just wished for the RPG games specifically that they stop reusing the same gesture loop cycle every time. They are too persistent on the same 3/4 gestures. I look at cyberpunk, another massive open world RPG with a length story and I can barely remember recycled animations, even though the cutscenes in that game are also procedural.
But who's the say a 15-20 hour AC game now in 2026 won't be fully mocapped? Do you think Hexe will do that? Because I certainly don't. I'm bracing for the the same hands on hip, arms crossed poses in a 15-20 hour story.

I wasn't clear: I mean for the RPG style games (lots of characters from your image are from these games) it's unrealistic to expect the best mocap for everything, but that Shadows final mission hopefully is the way forward to make it look much better next to the traditional mocap for bigger scenes (although ofc if possible do that for everything, but again I don't think that is realistic).
This is different for the more action adventure 15-20 hours games for sure. I 100% agree that some of the new content in the remake shouldn't have felt like a post launch mission in Shadows, but that is sadly the case.

It’s not unrealistic. AC fans have just been conditioned to accept a lack of motion capture as the norm over the last 9 years. Veteran fans notice this absence much more than RPG only fans who play these games for the gameplay. There's literal new main story scenes in Resynced that are not mocapped which would be considered a cardinal sin 9 years ago. It's very easy to overlook these flaws because the strength of the original main story completely overshadows the new content.
I also don't think it's unrealistic to want the entire Maynard chapter mocapped. Or perhaps the scene at the tavern in Great Inagua where Edward raises a glass to Blackbeard. Or perhaps the new Anne Bonny, Mary Read, Adewale main story cutscenes. These are like 10-20 seconds in length. Matching the original game's presentation for the sake of consistency should be Ubisoft's minimum standard.
What makes it more annoying is how they manipulated the world reveal, making it seem as if full motion capture was making a comeback. They showed us that snippet of Mart Ryan sitting at the table with his hands on his pistols, but that accounts for barely 2 minutes of an entire 90 minute chapter. It's outright misleading.

@Creed01Wilbur @TheHiddenOneAC 100% and doing full mocap for everything is unrealistic, but with the final mission for Shadows the devs seemingly found a way cheaper and still great way.
I hope they use that moving forward, although I do think Resynced could've used more overall mocap for sure.

@HassassiniAC I doubt it's AI. Matt Ryan had none of his fellow actors with him when he came back for the game so I'm thinking they just gave him and her lines

@TheHiddenOneAC I actually think Mary’s voice might be AI here you can hear the robotic change in pitch. I caught it in an earlier scene too 🫣
