I've never received any of these resources that we are allegedly taking away from those with higher support needs. And that's after suicide attempts, psychiatric incarceration and eventually homelessness.
Eoin Daly@eoinmauricedaly

There's a subtle shift in autism-parenting circles last few years, where ppl are encouraged to resent a supposed problem of over-diagnosis as detracting from the resources needed from their own child - that too many kids with lower needs are getting the label. Normalises scarcity

@crazytreewoman I'm so very happy by myself. I wish it was easier to live alone. That's the hardest thing for me in terms of survival. I can't live with anyone else because my sense of smell is so acute that close proximity to other humans is too overwhelming

@jadethebpdcoach Well with regards to England & Wales, it's currently stalled in parliament and will quite possibly run out of time (current Parliament session ends in May)

I dream of a day when the people of England rise up against the systems that have sold them out. Hopefully before they start mass-suiciding people who are a burden on the system, like Canada.

@alangrantuk @BBCNews I think we will have to disagree on it being "extreme". The number of vulnerable people that have been plunged into poverty & destitution is growing rapidly, and I don't see that slowing down anytime soon. Suicidal ideation is often a protective survival defense

@TheHillFool @BBCNews I understand that but it doesn't alter the fact that the point you're making is based on the most extreme hypothetical rather than the proposition as it is. That, in my view, is not the way to analyse any given policy.

@alangrantuk @BBCNews I'm offering you my personal experience as someone who has felt at times that there is no option but for me to exit life due to lack of adequate support for my disability & psychiatric conditions. And I'm not the only one, the loudest opposition came from the disabled community

@TheHillFool @BBCNews I'm always suspicious of this kind of slippery slope argument. It feels like you could use it to argue that we should do nothing ever about anything.

@alangrantuk @BBCNews The concern I, and many others have, is to do with structural coercion of a cruel system that constantly stigmatised and cuts support from the vulnerable & disabled. Assisted dying could easily become a way out for people who feel they have no options but to die

@TheHillFool @BBCNews Respectfully, I disagree. I felt the measures in the Bill as amended were sufficient. But I can accept that you don't.

@alangrantuk @BBCNews I'm someone with multiple psychiatric disorders. I'm also disabled. When I was made homeless and refused support by the council I decided that I wanted to end my life. And I could have made a convincing argument on why I should be allowed to due to these conditions.

@alangrantuk @BBCNews The problem is the legislation proposed was extremely weak and questionable in areas that left disabled and psychiatric patients vulnerable. These are not issues that can be simply glossed over.

@BBCNews Now, the unlucky in Scotland will continue to be trapped in painful, pointless, protracted conditions and deaths rather than have the option of dignity and control. Now, Scots know our lives are not ours, they are owned by someone else. Now, superstition beats compassion. Great.

The very basics, the things we rely on to build the foundations of a good life, have been taken out of our hands, sold for profit - and then sold or rented back to us at crushing rates. The Green Party is there to inspire people with hope. And now, it's hope and a plan.

@Gbear48C @sharrond62 Then create bulletproof legislation, with proper safeguards written in, and put in place both accessible palliative care options and decent income and living standards. And don’t push the deeply flawed and risky rubbish that was being proposed through into law.

@delighttoeyes @BBCBreakfast They are very different illnesses. This is more lethal but unlikely to spread in the way Covid did. It's a lower risk in that sense.

@cptndemocracy64 @RosieDuffield1 Even for an illness that can kill you in hours? What if it was an Ebola outbreak? When would you take precautions? Serious question, because I don't understand this mentality

@crazytreewoman I have been reading psychoanalytic theory since early adulthood. When I was sent to therapy for complex PTSD, I couldn't understand anything my therapist said without reading the source material. Eventually she caught on and would lend me her academic texts to read

@crazytreewoman The core issue in the autism debate is what is the unifying factor between the multiple manifestations. It may be multiple different intersecting spectrums. I guess there isn't enough research yet

@crazytreewoman With regards to subtypes, I don't have much opinion on this. Conditions with strong dissociative components also exist on a spectrum, but there are distinct categorical labels and are generally all manifestations of the same phenomena at varying degrees of severity & complexity

@crazytreewoman Yes, I actually do experience this and I believe it contributed to my dissociative disorder, as I was constantly overwhelmed being raised by an alcoholic caregiver who had very intense and chaotic emotional states that I absorbed like a sponge.

@TheHillFool True, affective empathy not always impaired, but if you can't use that info, in pragmatic terms it's not going to be useful - I might pick up on stress, but can't help if too overwhelmed by it, I exit situation
