Rotational sled pulls teach the athlete to hold ground, stabilize the core, rotate down and behind and maintain posture through rotation. Credit to Joey Cunha & The Farm System

Using the ground is not about knee flexion & using your quads. It’s not about pushing out of the ground. It’s about stability. It’s about generating force to rotate. It’s about creating a base so you can transfer energy.

One of the best fixes to gain more power, hit balls harder, and maximize your swing is by utilizing your legs constantly. @kaythouston

Other times it’s as simple as finding a cue that resonates with them. The bottom line is, when working with higher level hitters coaches need to be fluid and have an assessment process to work from so they are able to identify the exact needs of the hitter.

As hitters increase their skill level and move up levels, coaches should provide a more personalized and individualized approach to their training. Sometimes it’s approach based or understanding how pitchers are attacking them.

Coaching various levels of hitters, or even different hitters at the same level, requires nuance. Great hitters are adaptable and great hitting coaches need to be adaptable as well. @hossjobhitting

Training with medicine balls can improve rotational power and mechanics. When training rotation include both general exercises done at maximal speeds & specific exercises that can improve power & skill.

Deadfoot hitting drills are a great way not only to develop this “feel” but also for hitters to improve their ability to get up to maximal rotational velocities quickly.

Using your feet to “separate” the floor creates stability and tension. For hitters that have a tendency to initiate the swing with the front side, this can provide a “feel” that allows them to initiate rotation with the backside and the middle of the body. @hossjobhitting

All hitters should purposely put themselves in environments that cause failure. Not only does it make the physical task of hitting in a game easier, it gives the athlete authentic practice at learning how to deal with failure and move on. Failure is when improvement occurs.

All the mechanical work in the world won’t transfer into the game if you don’t challenge yourself in practice. Hitting environments need to be hard. Barreling 8 out of 10 balls isn’t improving your adjustability or timing. @hossjobhitting
