@lethargicj He is forever my number one. But Jason and Freddy’s decade plus absence has softened their cultural grasp. Halloween 2018 was the highest grossing slasher ever. It brought Michael back to the forefront. Whole generation of kids who have only seen the new Halloweens in the theater

@I_AM_AM387_44 @TheHorrorOutlaw Doesn't the movie start with him and a little girl in his basement before burning her teddy and licking her image and sticking it in a book?

The shit they had him saying in FvJ can’t be misconstrued as anything else. I’ll never understand why the remake is the only movie to get shit for this. Maybe it’s because it’s only one bold enough to outright say it. But it has always been a layer to Freddy.

It can be debated how some of the other entries handle it but saying the remake was the first one to properly grapple with Freddy being a child predator in any order is disingenuous to what was going on in the original films. It’s right there, burning in the framing and subetext.

The cłitoris has over 8000 nerve endings and it’s still not as sensitive as a man on Twitter who has been told he’s wrong.

The fact that a tweet of mine about Pamela Voorhees is getting attention and love. Could not be more satisfied with this. It’s as it should be.

@BrainMutant I agree with you that you can do a perfect blend. That’s why New Nightmare is my fav of the franchise. That movie was a modern fairy tale. And remake Freddy crying out was painting that nightmare flashback in a sympathetic light was just another manipulation of Freddy on Quinten

@TheHorrorOutlaw I think you can have it dark and still lean into the fairytale aspect. In some ways I feel he’s less evil in the remake, especially crying and trying to lie his way out of being burned. Englund, conversely, welcomes being burned and embraces it when it happens.

@BrainMutant I can understand your viewpoint. However, I prefer a darker sinister Freddy. The remake Freddy is about as dark as it gets (outside of Nightmare 2, another personal fav of mine). I like that they leaned all in on him being an evil and cruel demon in a fedora.

@TheHorrorOutlaw They boldly specify it in an episode of Freddy’s Nightmares. The difference is that OG Freddy is portrayed like a fairy tale archetype that he works no matter your age or how you interpret his crimes. The remake Freddy is overly real, grounded, and uninteresting as a result.

@I_AM_AM387_44 How the scenes with him and Lori were shot near the end and his dialogue towards her like your example or “Your eyes say no. But my mouth says yes-yes.” It’s all to highlight the implications of his darkest side without coming out and saying it.

@LFC_Chriis Remake isn’t anything great and sorta wasted the potential of having a substantial budget and did nothing interesting with the nightmare sequences. But it’s not nearly as bad as its reputation. It’s one of the better slasher remake out there.

@Kneelku Reboot Jason is a unit. Michael couldn’t handle that. Human Jason is resourceful and he can’t be stealth killed. Stealth is Michael’s advantage and he doesn’t have it against Jason.

@murdererwives If they took out the scenes that reveal Michael and Laurie are siblings, it would be THE perfect sequel. That damn stupid twist ruins it and leads most of the franchise down a dark path they couldn’t shake until 2018.

@mandyyoungsipod Literally my least favorite idea ever. The true horror of that story is a mother lost her son to negligence. What that drove a good mother to become. To make her always abusive and crazy is not only cheap. It’s a disservice.

@tangy_tanger1ne And we are supposed to be rooting for Alice (and her group). She and that group did nothing wrong. But Pam’s world view went to hell the moment her son died to negligence. We can’t understand Pam and her motives, we aren’t meant to agree with them. We sympathize, don’t condone.

@TheHorrorOutlaw it’s a really nice portrayal of how revenge can corrupt you & become a justification for sadism; the original movie is even more tragic when you realize that pam is only passing on her trauma to the families of her victims
