Although compulsory deductions are made from our salaries, we do not know what they are for.

Dealing with developers has been the worst part of my experience because they are not well regulated.

Construction was supposed to finish at the end of 2020 but I am still waiting for the developer to finish.

I applied when I was 35 so my mortgage is for 25 years.

I contributed for over 2 years before I applied for a mortgage for a 21 million naira property.

I first heard about the NHF when I started working and realised that 2.5% of my income was being deducted monthly.

This month we've been discussing access to housing for young families. Recently we spoke to Bayo, a 37 year old HR manager in Abuja to hear about his experience accessing a mortgage through the National Housing Fund.

The scale of the housing crisis is such that we cannot afford to be driven by profit alone.

We are still using figures from years ago. The dearth of data exacerbates the situation further.

People don't need to own homes right away, people just need shelter. @MrAbutpires

We have been exploring access to housing for young families this month. We are rounding off the month with Kabir. A 36 year old accountant in Lagos who's been frustrated by the system. Here's what he had to say.

Difficulties, delays and corruption in the system have put us off and pushed us towards a private sector mortgage with an interest rate of 18%.

We put in our application over 2 years ago with no progress. We have decided to abandon the process and apply for a private sector mortgage instead.

Although many are contributing to the NHF they will likely never see the fruits of the deductions.
