@BOSSportsGordo Exactly. Duran should’ve been moved. No question about it. He was the odd man out in my opinion. Rafaela is versatile and a righty bat with a gold glove defense. It made all the sense to move Duran. Doing nothing about the log jam caused this

If Yoshida is part of the solution, and you’re obv never gonna sit Abreu/Anthony, it’s gonna be a lotta bench time for Duran and Rafaela. Reason number 600 why the outfield logjam shoulda been taken care of during the five month offseason.

@HouckssBurner Agreed on all points. Between the prospects we have and what was available. We had a clear advantage and ended up with the opposite of what we wanted.

This offseason could have been such a slam dunk for the Red Sox. You could’ve signed one of Pete Alonso or Kyle Schwarber, resigned Alex Bregman and traded any of the pieces you used this offseason + Jarren Duran for a true number 2. Instead, Breslow got rid of a majority of the starting pitcher depth he created for old guys. Replaced 2 franchise type players at third base with Caleb Durbin, and signed a guy in Ranger Suarez to a long term deal, even though he goes against everything they say they want in a pitcher. They barely upgraded the defense, didn’t upgrade the bullpen, got rid of many good prospects and depth for marginally better players, and did not clear the outfield logjam. In what could have been such a franchise altering offseason, Breslow failed. So far his failures are showing with a 2-7 start, and the guys we traded away that we got in the Devers trade are balling out. I don’t even know what to say anymore.

Tough sequence brewing here: The Red Sox ruined their relationship with Rafael Devers in the name of making Alex Bregman their 3B. So they traded Devers for a package centered around Kyle Harrison and James Tibbs. Despite that, they let Alex Bregman walk just 7 months later over a no-trade clause. So they gave that money to Ranger Suarez (8.64 ERA in 2 GS so far) despite having a full rotation. And made Caleb Durbin (.204 OPS so far) the new 3B. And traded Kyle Harrison (2.61 ERA in 2 GS so far) and more to the Brewers to get him. James Tibbs (7 homers in 9 games this year in AAA) was traded last year for half a season of Dustin May (5.40 ERA in 6 games for BOS).

I think a fundamental problem is that when you have a team with so many young, inexperienced players, you depend on the veterans to provide the consistency, and Story and Duran are just extremely inconsistent players

@Jared_Carrabis It’s going to be one of those years where they win 3, in row and then lose 4 in row. No consistency. Not built for it. This team is a downgrade from last year where even last year, we were starving for runs. Just a mess everywhere on the diamond.

@tylermilliken_ He wasn’t going to be a savior on this team, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a more out of touch big name franchise put together a more boring team in a beast of a division. Did we all really think Suarez, Contreras and Durbin put this team as a world series contender? Awful

Alex Cora admits it's been a surprising start to the season for Ranger Suarez. Also, I understand mentioning the Narvaez throwing error, but Suarez walked Bogaerts to load the bases right after. You can't let Nick Castellanos beat you in 2026.

For people clamoring for a Breslow firing, where do you go once they fire him? Do we not remember how difficult it was the Sox to get to Breslow last time? That job would only get less desirable

@patsnation0815 I’m not saying he shouldn’t be the ss, but Sox guaranteed the job to him so early on. It set a bad tone for the offseason. Celo literally got the job as the 2B. Sox guaranteed story who’s had more bad than good for them, I think as a bad move like all the others this winter.

OK, so who are you putting at shortstop then because you don’t have any other options?? Mayer isn’t a full time player yet so you’re not platooning at SS and if you move Trevor off SS for Celo who’s playing SS on his off days? Lmfao 🤣 like???

@BOSSportsGordo Story has had one good year for us and a ton of injuries for the other years. In no way should he have been guaranteed the job this year. It’s that simple.

@BOSSportsGordo I’m concerned and have been since they committed to Story at short early on in the offseason. Followed by a bungled winter. The team is a mess. A lackluster mess. And if anyone thinks that this team will be a force in October, I hate to break it to you, it ain’t happening.

Genuinely upset about the caliber of ball we’ve seen and if you’re not concerned, I think you’re lying to yourself. Season over? No. 156 games to figure it out. Time to call for jobs? No. Real concerns with not just the first week, but with the team moving forward? Absolutely.
