Seen some chatter about Driscoll making the rounds. Here’s your periodic reminder that he paid a team of researchers and sermon writers to do the vast majority of his work, then packaged it all as if he did it all himself. I know because I was one of them.

I’ve been at my church for 11 years but no matter how long I stay, my legacy will still be the time I preached on Is.40 and gave everyone a feather as a reminder of God’s care. I told them “put it in your Bible or your buttonhole” and no one heard the TON in buttonhole.

@TheJeditor Really appreciated chapter one. “Christianity is a way of dying.” It felt like it had the element that was sometimes missing from Timothy Keller’s “On Death.” Is there a physical version of this book available for sale?

Apparently Twitter kills tweets with links, so I’m just gonna say that I started a YouTube channel. If you’ve liked my tweets about the Bible—especially the bits that challenge our overfamiliar readings—you may enjoy the content.

Details-reading is helpful for filling in the cracks, as it were, but without a thoroughgoing grasp of the overarching narrative, it’s more likely to mislead than ever help.

There’s lots of talk about discourse analysis at the moment, but the irony is that it’s the intuitive way we read most everything naturally.

Inductive Bible study—for all its goals of contextual and grammatical analysis—reduces interpretation to an atomistic level. As such it struggles to ever actually grasp the significance of the very words it aims to interpret.
