We know that a police investigation took place. Evidence was gathered. A file was submitted to the CPS. The outcome being emphasised in this statement however is “no charges.” BUT THAT DOES NOT mean no evidence existed. It means the evidential threshold was not met at that time. That distinction matters. The case was serious enough to be investigated. Serious enough to be placed before prosecutors. And yet the statement engages with NONE of that seriousness. Instead, it leans on time. “30 years ago.” In UK law, there is NO time limit for historic or current serious sexual offences. Cases CAN be revisited if new evidence emerges. Time does not remove responsibility. Now consider what is absent in this statement. No denial. No acknowledgment of the nature of the allegation. No reference to safeguarding. No indication of how anyone is being protected now. And more so, NO clarity as to whether the historic investigation is indeed connected to the termination. That is NOT transparency. It is controlled narrative. So please, be discerning. A legal and strategically written statement is NOT the same as accountability or relevancy. #scottmills #bbc
