🚨 THE NEW RADICAL INTERNET ISN’T ON X OR TIKTOK Forget Instagram flame wars or TikTok psy-ops. The next battleground for radicalization is gaming platforms - Discord, Roblox, Steam, Twitch. Built for play, they’ve morphed into closed-door social hubs where millions of young people hang out under anonymous handles. And that anonymity is rocket fuel for extremists, predators, and propagandists looking for recruits. Discord: from Charlottesville carpool planning to the Buffalo shooter’s prep diary to the alleged confession of Charlie Kirk’s killer. Roblox: lawsuits over trafficking, predators, and lawsuits piling up despite its kid-friendly branding. Twitch: used to livestream mass shootings. Steam: flagged as a neo-Nazi hangout as far back as 2021. Researchers warn: most of these chats are invisible to outsiders, hidden under layers of “gamespeak” that blurs role-play with real ideology. Platforms could police it - but haven’t invested nearly enough to keep up. Now Congress is paying attention. On Oct. 8, the CEOs of Discord, Steam, Twitch, and Reddit will be grilled over how much radicalization they’re letting run unchecked. Source: Axios
