It just dawned on my why ChatGPT just makes up its own facts. It has proven to be a successful strategy for so long and it is trained on human behavior/language. ChatGPT blows the same smoke your crazy uncle does! Now I fear AI for a completely different reason!

I have students who want letters of recommendation complete a form. I just pasted one into Chat GPT and asked it to write a letter for me. It created one that was more in-depth and personalized than I would have written alone!

@Dsrussosusan Perhaps a more unpopular opinion then: Factoring GCF is more important that factoring quadratic trinomials. GCF factoring is a much more generalized factoring type, is easier to learn, and is a more conceptually important. If we were moving one of the two, I’m for keeping GCF.

Unpopular opinion: let’s stop doing “factor completely” in algebra 1. I can get kids factoring trinomials like champs… but then we throw that “factor completely” section in and it overwhelms them. Hold off til algebra 2 when they’ve practiced the factoring.
