@TheCriticMag @mykebartlett Great article, Myke. I think it was a decade of two halves. For me, pop music reached its zenith in 1980-1, and 84 was a great year for sure. However, the latter part of the decade: Jive Bunny, Stock Aitkin Waterman, and the hell that Top of the Pops became 🤮

Woke up to #Wexford destroyed in plastic corriboard election posters. Who are they for? Seeing Cynthia Ní Mhurchú’s face on EVERY pole from Tesco to Whitford doesn’t make me more likely to vote for her. A LOT of Sinn Féin and Independent Alliance on that route too. Outdated no?🤷‍♂️

@kamiroshiru You sound as if you're a few seasons behind. The first book was the first season, then there's 2, 3, 4, and now 5 just starting. My advice (and I'm heavily biased) is to relisten to the first season then work your way through the rest🧛🏼‍♂️🎧😊

@DeLoachJW 😄 Thus far, I haven't stepped on any mines. But then I'm not very well known. I imagine if/when I become better known, I'll become more subject to criticism. My defence for my voice characterisations has always been that they're there to differentiate characters. Nothing more.

@TheMikeBennett My GF enjoyed the U&F I played for her & pointed out that since you voice all characters, you would probably get in more trouble trying to do a “ethnic voice“ then for not having one of every flavor in your character list. For a writer/performer it seems like a minefield.

@DeLoachJW Thank you. I do try to keep the story neutral in that respect. I want everyone to be able to enjoy it as a piece of entertainment, which is all it sets out to be.

@TheMikeBennett Actually that’s one of the things about U&F that surprised/impressed me. Your characters follow a logical (within world you’ve created at least) pattern & whatever your personal social/political beliefs are they do not appear to be injected in. Rare to the point of being unique.

@DeLoachJW They do have laws governing hate speech, as does the EU. However, the arrest of someone criticising the monarchy is out of order, and was called out for being so. This doesn't usually happen, and shouldn't happen, ever.

@DeLoachJW He chuckled because he's joking. He'd get some flak for it from some quarters, but he wouldn't be arrested.

@TheMikeBennett I recently saw John Cleese in what I presume is his final tour (since he refers to his own death in the title of the tour) & was able to stay after for questions. I asked if he he could do LoB “Loretta“ skit in modern UK, he chuckled & said he would be arrested for hate speech.

@DeLoachJW I guess it would be in comparison to the US. I personally think the NHS is a fantastic thing. Where did you hear about people getting arrested for saying something against the orthodoxy? People do that all the time and they don't get arrested.

@TheMikeBennett These days, with British police literally arresting people for saying something against the Orthodoxy online (irony of course being that Orwell was British) while it’s possible to find countries which are MORE socialist it’s impossible to say that the UK is not VERY socialist.
