The more we are able to hold space for our own suffering, the more capable we are of holding space for collective suffering in the world. #civicmindfulness #ConsciousPlanet

I’m re-watching The Birdcage for the umteenth time. I miss Robin Williams. Just realized Gene Hackman’s character is an Ohio State guy, and Val still sucks.

I’m not even a week into teaching at my new university, and I’ve already upped my caffeine consumption trifold bc 2021 is a heluva year. On the bright side, pumpkin spice came out today 🎃 #highered #phdlife #spookycoffee

As soon as I wake up, I think about altruism. I reflect on the verse that says, "So long as space remains, I will remain in order to serve sentient beings." This gives me inner strength and determination, so there’s no longer any danger of destructive emotions arising.

My partner’s words ring true for this millennial relationship: “I was just trying to watch a rom-com, and you’re trying to watch murder”…honey, murder puts me more at ease than any fake rom-com- serial killers over damsel in distress any dang day. #millenial #murderdocs #love

@DCarter1218 @JayWamsted @TheMindful_Prof I taught Chemistry in Florida for years. Chemistry is not a capped class b/c it is a. Not required for graduation and b. not a state tested course. I regularly had 32-35 students in a classroom built for 24. Size caps are not what public think they are

My classroom. I teach 8th grade & my largest class has 38 students. We need 9 more desks. Eight, if my co-teacher gives up their seat. But where do those desks go? Even then, the county is less than half vaccinated. Masks are optional. Windows don't open. How is this a plan?

@alumkat584 @DCarter1218 @JayWamsted According to the bill that was passed in Florida it is (the definition of core shifted to accommodate for larger class sizes), they changed it back in 2011

@ShayneUsa @JayWamsted @DCarter1218 Yup, don’t want to spread misinformation- there are two tested subjects in social studies- modern us (usually in 11th grade) and civics (usually in 7/8 grade). Other ss classes are not tested. The rewrite drastically reduced core courses including SS.

@JayWamsted @DCarter1218 Here’s the bill that changed what core meant- the original passed in 2002 is in red crossed out- the additional in 2011 changed what core meant (added in green) which made the the amendment rule obsolete in most classes. (Pic from Fl senate)

@JayWamsted @DCarter1218 In Florida, this only applies to core classes, not history or electives, also 9-12 is capped at 25 if core. So as a history teacher it’s typical to get 40ish kids in a class.

@TStephens72 @JayWamsted @DCarter1218 Depends on the history you take with in social studies- which is how the amendment laws aren’t upheld to an exact 18 (elementary) 22 (4-8) & 25 (9 12) all the time depending on the classes taken.

@DCarter1218 @TStephens72 @JayWamsted Also another fun way to get around the amendment size is that if they enroll after October is that they can add past the class size of 25 (9-12 if core) pic provided from FL DOE (since the latter was thought to be misinformation.

@DCarter1218 @TStephens72 @JayWamsted They do this in most ap classes as they are deemed “electives” and then put some in there that are not qualified. They stuff the class. I see you are in Orange County. Having partnered and observed this district- I saw this in a large majority of classes I walked into in OC

@DCarter1218 @TStephens72 @JayWamsted not all ss classes are deemed core- inclusive of certain history courses. This is how they get around the amendment laws in certain ss classes. This is inclusive of other core subject areas too
