Starting from scratch to become scratch golfer… Long term baby steps to lowering your handicap and very generalized keys for each step. (A Thread: ) Some of these may be controversial vs tradition advice but as someone who has actually gone from >90s to scratch in my adult life, they were transformational moments that I noticed:

01 Duke being 29 is asinine. They had 5 guys who were long time proven NBA players, well the one guy who wasn’t was their best player who just was severely injuries in a motorcycle accident. Jason Williams- one of the best college PG ever. Dynamic all around player Chris Duhon- an athletic guard Mike dunleavy- and lengthy athletic wing who could shoot and defend Shane battier- an all time defender and stretch forward Carlos boozer- who ended up being a great toward in the league Along with Nate James who was a really solid big guard. This team was insanely talented. Is there a team who had more long term NBA talent that panned out like this?

I’m not even disagreeing with any of that but it simply does not make that the greatest finals single game performance ever. There’s also plenty of other context like warriors injuries, Draymond getting suspended for a game, kyrie hitting what would be the winning shot. Again, I’m not saying it wasn’t a great performance or even one of the greatest moments but if you remove the context (which I understand is your point but hear me out) it’s not even a top 20 LeBron playoff performance and probably not a top 10 finals performance for him. With context it it shoots it up the list, it’s just hard to put it as the best finals “performance” ever

@TheMissingPie_e @FastbreakHoops5 It’s all in context. Completing the only 3-1 comeback in finals history with a triple double against the greatest team in NBA history after putting up 41/16/7 and 41/8/11 in back to back games…the block was the bookend to likely the greatest finals performance ever

In other words, is a star putting up relatively similar numbers to his averages on much worse efficiency an all time great game simply because of one moment. Larry Bird has a famous steal that won them. This is a famous legendary moment. He happened to have a great game, but if he didn’t have a great game, that one steal doesn’t turn it into a legendary game

@TrillJacks0n @bgee0815 @FastbreakHoops5 Yea, I still hold the game in high regard. To me it feels more like a great moment than a great game. If he had 40 10 and 10 on 50% but it was a boring blowout because of it, i would consider that a better game vs the better moment of having the late game heroics

I don’t think I am, playing bad enough to need late game heroics doesn’t necessarily make it one of the greatest games vs greatest moments. If he scored 40, 10, 10 shooting 50% but it was a blowout because of it, would that be a better game even though there wasn’t the drama at the end?

@TheMissingPie_e @FastbreakHoops5 You aren’t factoring in the circumstances at all, the drama, the storyline. Again, if you say magic 42 is number 1 we can talk little but IMO, ima say bron #1

@TheMissingPie_e @FastbreakHoops5 Yea they came back from 3-1 and won on the road, game 7, against the best regular season team in league history with the unanimous MVP. Had a trip dub, and the biggest block in finals history. Magic is the only debatable one to this.

@Jezuslane He also shot 37% from the field that game lol not sure any of what you said makes it better than any other game listed. Not denying it was overall a game, just simply saying without the lore of that one block it’s probably not even in the top 10 let alone 1

Both ball speed and carry per MPH of swing speed have increased since 2007. This doesn’t tell us what the cause is but it factors out the whole athleticism argument. Maybe launch is being optimized more? Not sure that explains ball speed. The simple fact is 120mph clubhead speed produces a tangibly different drive distance now vs any time period you want to compare to. The most logical answer IMO is that technology continues to improve fractionally each year and over a few years it adds up to a noticeable difference. Posts like this where he picks up 5mph ball speed supports that

@AndyTFE You guys know the clubs are regulated, right? You’re not going to gain 5mph with the same swing speed by going to a new driver, then it would be illegal. There’s a reason you don’t see smash factors going up and up and up

Must have increased athleticism between drivers.

Jeff Kang’s the first pro to test @Titleist GTS2 on the range — and it goes about as good as you could expect. Saw ball speeds jump from 174-175 with GT to 178-180 with GTS. Also watched toe balls hang in the air on their intended line, as opposed to diving, with 2,200 spin. Mentioned to me the sound was “thuddier,” which is an upgrade for him to the GT acoustics.

Few players in NBA history would benefit more from playing in the modern era vs their era. Hakeem’s versatility was obviously appreciated but having the space and pace of the modern game and the green light to use his skills on the perimeter and transition would open his game up even more. Hakeem, Bird, David Robinson are some of the first guys that come to mind for me that were held back by the coaching philosophy of their eras

I don’t really care about the distance I just think the forgiveness for pros need to corrected. I don’t think the forgiveness difference between 07 and 26 drivers is debatable. For me, I want off center strikes to be penalized appropriately for the best players in the world and all the distance stuff gets taken care of as a byproduct

@TheMissingPie_e @DanOnGolfShow It’s definitely debatable but I’m more on Brysons side. I wish they would get more creative with courses other than thinking everything just has to be long to challenge them. Look at Merion, 6,900 yards and the winning US Open score was +1.
