Let me break this down for you, and y'all can go break this down for others. "Rest in power" is not the woke version of "Rest in peace." It's not just cool, it's not a way to show you really liked someone, it's not something you say when a famous person you really liked dies.

If you're open to graphic novels, they can be great for engaging readers. Maybe something like Nadia Shammas' thought-provoking fantasy Squire or Robin Ha's candid, bittersweet Almost American Girl. #AskALibrarian

@dcpl My students’ interest vary. One thing we (school) are adamant about is not reading books that re-traumatizing our students beyond what they are currently experiencing in their communities. My students (ages 18-24) also HATE reading.

@TheMorganCruise You might also try I AM THE MESSENGER by Markus Zusak and many of Neal Shusterman's novels (Scythe could be a fun challenge, though perhaps a tough theme for this group -- hard to say without knowing more). #AskALibrarian ^ah

Maybe a wilderness survival novel? I AM STILL ALIVE by Marshall offers plenty to discuss and is very compelling with an almost fantasy feel with how removed it is from the "real world" while still serving a contemporary plot. I may come back to this request! #AskALibrarian ^ah

I hate, hate, HATE how many YA books with Black protagonists have to almost always experience some form of police brutality or violent ending. The current landscape offers little escape.

Whatever this is, it’s real. Based on the best-selling novel by Octavia Butler, FX’s Kindred premieres December 13. Only on @hulu.

There’s “Soul Food is bad” discourse going around the feed today, and I wonder if the folks saying that have some generational distance from the South and don’t know what soul food is, because I never ate so many fresh vegetables and good cuts of meat as when I lived in Georgia.
