This isn’t a “hidden 48-dimensional universe.”
They’re talking about high-dimensional state spaces in quantum systems, specifically orbital angular momentum modes of light. That’s math and encoding capacity not extra physical dimensions you can travel through.

Most people have heard the term light cone in relativity.
But very few people realize what it actually means.
Every single event in the universe has one.
Imagine a single moment in spacetime like a flash of light happening right now. From that event, light spreads outward in every direction at the speed of light. As time moves forward, that expanding sphere traces out a shape in spacetime called a light cone.
The diagram below shows what that looks like.
That cone divides the universe into three regions.
Future light cone - everything that event can influence.
Past light cone - everything that could have influenced it.
Elsewhere - events that are completely causally disconnected.
Nothing can cross the boundary of that cone faster than light. That’s not just a rule or a speed limit written into physics it’s a geometric property of spacetime itself.
But here’s the part most people never hear.
Light cones aren’t just diagrams in textbooks.
They are the skeleton of causality in the universe.
Every signal, every interaction, every physical influence must stay inside those cones. Cause and effect are literally constrained by this geometric structure.
And gravity doesn’t pull light the way people often imagine. Massive objects actually tilt the light cones, changing which futures are possible.
Near a black hole, the cones tip inward more and more. At the event horizon they tip so far that every future direction points toward the center.
Inside the horizon, falling toward the singularity isn’t a choice.
It’s simply the only direction that future exists.
And here’s the deepest idea. 💡
If you erased all distances from spacetime but kept only the pattern of light cones the structure of what can influence what physicists could reconstruct the geometry of spacetime itself.
In other words.
The universe is not fundamentally built from space.
