@ggg78g89 My opinion is probably not worth much, but what the heck: maybe Google has a different market, different plan? Think about all the way they use AI for NORMAL people. More to life than coding? Do you have to always have the frontier model to be the best?

I’m genuinely surprised by how far behind Google now seems. There was a point when it looked ahead after releasing Gemini 3.0 Pro, and everyone was praising it. Now, it almost feels as if Google has accepted that it cannot beat OpenAI and Anthropic. Kimi K3 has made things even worse for them. I suspect Gemini 3.5 Pro was not even at the level of Opus 4.8 when Google announced it at I/O. It may have only reached roughly that level this month, but then Kimi K3 arrived and disrupted the entire plan. Now Google probably wants Gemini 3.5 Pro to be at least clearly better than Kimi K3 before releasing it.
