What are tech companies that operate their own data centers? A few that I know of: - Cloud providers: Alibaba, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Oracle, IBM - Apple (supposedly 10 DCs) - Meta (supposedly 18 DCs) - Twitter (3 -> 2 DCs) - Uber (2 DCs) What other ones do you know about?

@Moike_the_Squid We used to have some hardware in our datacenters that suffered from a last minute component change, replacing surface mount caps with electrolytic. NBD, except they happened to surround a temperature sensor. This would cause the machines to periodically read over temp

@Moike_the_Squid Sometimes id finally get back home only to have to turn around and go back for another machine. The only upside was I was hourly at the time.

@Moike_the_Squid So they would shut down. Since it's a soft power off you can't just use the smart pdu to reset the power. Also this datacenter wasn't supported by our prod site operations people at the time, so I'd have to drop what I was doing and head in. 24/7.

@sigje I have a very active internal monologue. I can silence it if I work carefully to blank my mind, but it's easiest when doing simple repetitive tasks. Medication has changed things dramatically for me, and made it MUCH easier to reach that meditative state.
