Post-Harvest losses have significant economic implications, reducing the availability of food for consumption and leading to financial losses for farmers and other stakeholders in the food supply chain. This morning, I joined the Kenya Agrihack event, which is a meeting of minds geared towards developing innovative, climate-smart, and gender-responsive solutions for reducing post-harvest losses. In recognizing the importance of addressing post-harvest loss, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development is working to educate farmers, develop infrastructure, improve market access, control pests and diseases, encourage value addition, and enact policies and regulations that support the sector. I assured the Agri-Hackers of the government's commitment to holding hands with all stakeholders to realizing our mission to save livelihoods, feed the country, and pave the way for a sustainable future.

Kenyan farmers are losing 20-40% of their hard earned harvest. Today, The Rallying Cry launches the #KenyaAgriHack in partnership with @CGIARclimate and @CGIARAfrica to help tackle this issue in the cereals, horticulture and dairy value chains.

The @KenyaAgrihack's timing is a strategic and collaborative response to the urgency in the agricultural sector; one that has been exacerbated through floods, droughts and other calamities that cause losses. #KenyaAgrihack #SolvingPostHarvestLosses
