On May 8, Bill Gates announced to the New York Times that he planned to spend down the $200 billion in his foundation’s coffers by Dec. 31, 2045—several decades before originally intended. A month later, Gates revealed that the majority of that money will go to bolstering the work his foundation has been doing in Africa. But what, exactly, have they been doing there?
