What a nice place! We are at Charco de San Ginés, Arrecife, Lanzarote. It is a large natural salt water lagoon which was originally a small fishing village. During the Conquistador era it was a stop off point on the route taken by the ships returning to Spain from Latin America.

The Jardín de Cactus on Lanzarote, designed by César Manrique, requires about 60 liters of water a day to maintain over 6,000 cacti and succulents. 🌵 This remarkably small amount is exactly equal to the volume of water a single dromedary camel can drink in one sitting. 🐪

Jardín de Cactus🌵 The cactus gardens, back here in Lanzarote, was Cesar Manrique’s last big project, which he ran while creating his new home in Haria in the late 80’s. He chose an area that had been a quarry and then a rubbish dump and created a home for 1000 species of cactus.

Thirsty Flat Eric? Let's have a glass of Cactus Liqueur. Made from the prickly pear (tuno indio) that grows wild in the Canary Islands.  It has a soft, delicately sweet, and fruity flavor profile. The taste is like a mix of watermelon, ripe pear, and melon. It is delicious!

Taro de Tahiche was the name Manrique gave his house in Tahiche, which now is the Fundacion César Manrique. Walking across the lava fields at Tahiche, Manrique noticed the five natural volcanic bubbles upon which he built his first home on his return to Lanzarote from New York.

César Manrique, born in the Canary Islands, is an artist, painter, sculptor, landscape artist and creator of most of the art, culture and tourism centres that now exist on Lanzarote. Let's visit his former house and now museum. #architecture #design #nature #Lanzarote #art

The Monumento a la Fecundidad (Monument to Fertility). A 15-metre high sculpture created by César Manrique in 1969 with the help of Jesús Soto, who developed the iron and concrete sculpture. It depicts a farmer with a camel and a dog, and pays tribute to the island's farmers.

Wow! What's this? La Geria wine area on the lava fields of Lanzarote Island, Spain. Lanzarote vineyards have these holes dug in the volcanic ash, each holding a single vine. A semicircular stone wall protects the vine from the Atlantic wind. How unusual! #winelovers #malvasia
