@johnfbraun Yeah you didn’t need to specify the carrier. The phone would have come unlocked. This is the beauty of buying from Apple. Thus is phone I am responding to you on was purchased that way. No issues moving my number to the new phone.

@TheRealJTRay I bought directly from Apple, and specified Verizon as the carrier. My concern in this case is that I don't want a locked phone, but specifying Verizon as the carrier made the migration from the 12 Mini to the 17e rather painless.

In other upgrade news, when I upgraded from an iPhone 12 mini to an iPhone 17e, Verizon charged an "upgrade fee" of $30 or so dollars" I don't think I should have to pay a fee to transfer an eSIM to a new device. Fortunately, their automated agent offered to waive the fee.

@johnfbraun But did you buy directly from Apple and not include the carrier. That’s a big distinction.

@TheRealJTRay Well I did buy the 17e from Apple, and they did warn about the Verizon "upgrade" fee. But I'm a long time (20+ years) customer and I've found that if there's a fee on any bill you don't agree with, it can't hurt to ask. In this case it worked.

@johnfbraun I don’t disagree. Every administration believes they have a solution. I don’t know that any have come up with a solution. Hope is for the people of Iran to wrestle control and figure it out on their own. Unfortunately this past Summer the latest attempt failed (100k deaths).

These problems with Iran have been going on for 47 years. We need skilled negotiators with depth of historical knowledge to get a deal that makes this military action one that actually protects America’s national security. The president sent two real estate developers. Why would any of us be surprised by the lack of results?

@johnfbraun Are you saying the complete change over in political/religious ideology in 1979 has played no part in Iran being the de facto terrorist state in the Middle East? I feel like that’s saying nothing after 1776 changed with United States.

@TheRealJTRay So, what exactly to you see or experience when you are "locked in?" Do you see a different satellite icon?

So I think I got about 4 days of battery use on my shiny new iPhone 17e, which is much better than my old iPhone 12 mini, probably due to the larger battery. Now doing a wired PD charge, which from I understand is more efficient than MagSafe, even though I have a MagSafe case.

@johnfbraun Never tried the demo mode. In the plane I just move the phone until it locks in. While driving I will stop and wait until it locks in. It’s fairly simple.

@TheRealJTRay I won't be flying for a couple of months, so looking for some earth-based guidance. How exactly do you connect to the satellite. Is it using this "demo mode?" At times I'll see Satellite in my Settings menu, but when I try to interact, I still get the dreaded demo mode.
