Bit of a break from politics. Here's a wonderful & very emotional clip from Band of Brothers. WWII has ended. The German forces have surrendered and a German general asks permission to give a parting address to his soldiers. The men listen as the General's words are translated by an American soldier. Its interesting to observe the faces of the allied troops, as they slowly realise that the words of the German General apply just as well to themselves. Then the unspoken thought arises. Have they been fighting and killing their own brothers? The overall scene is a brilliant comment on who really suffers from wars. Its a very succinct and understated message that has more impact for the subdued manner by which it is conveyed. IMHO a wonderful piece of screenplay.

@KokilaP96033033 NZers as a rule are very trusting of govt/ bureaucrats and its therefore hard to get them to realise when they are being scammed. Also, the bureaucrats themselves are often completely unaware of the real motives behind the changes they are pushing.

@TheRedbaiter That sits squarely with local and central government. Intensification because it’s selfish to keep people out with your single dwelling on a section. Going to be problematic as the 3 storey townhouses become expensive to maintain compared to a single storey

Reading the Good Oil General Debate this morning I was struck by a comment that primarily focused on car parking problems and rubbish bin regulations, but actually touched on a far deeper problem. City demographics are being radically changed and we're ignoring the real reason this is being done. Single family quarter acre homes are being replaced by multi-story flats and the primary outcome is that a piece of land once producing two votes now produces thirty votes. The two votes probably came from a generic NZ two parent family with kids, relatively financially secure and with naturally conservative voting habits. The thirty votes come from apartment dwelling immigrants (many who are renters) with totally different values system and voting patterns. Australian statistics show that 6 out of 10 Indian immigrants (as mentioned in the Good Oil comment) vote Labor or left. So a suburb that once produced say 5000 votes for conservative policies, now produces about 150,000 votes with about 100,000 of these going to the left. A massive net gain in votes for Labour. In New Zealand, the Labour party started off housing intensification. The irony is the National party (MPs Nicola Willis and Chris Bishop) continued it enthusiastically. Are the Nats so incurious that they have not read or studied think tank reports on the political objectives of housing intensification projects in the USA and elsewhere? That it was a strategy pushed there by President Barack Obama should be warning enough. Its just one more example of why continuing to vote for the Uniparties across the globe is condemning western societies to a slow and painful death. Don't vote for your own extinction. Link to the Good Oil comment below.

@henrycooke Because they want to make Ms Willis leader at the same time as their focus groups tell them she is unelectable.

We can of course ask why education is failing, but the real question is why is it in the same rate of decline in almost every western country? Obviously there is a central command. The same central command that is sending out directions on how to destroy not just education but almost every other facet of our societies. In this video, Dr Bella D'Arbrera reports on her investigation into the Australian education system and the disaster she discovered. We know its happening in New Zealand too and its probably even worse. Another question- are the National Party and Education Minister Erica Stanford the ones to fix this? Given Ms Stanford gave her maiden speech to parliament in a symbolic deep green suit and boasted fulsomely of her environmental past, we probably can't expect too much from her. National as a party have done very little (some say even encouraged) the Maori separatist push in New Zealand. So will they fix it? Not until they recognise the global origins of all of this deliberate subversion, and IMHO they're light years away from that. It needs to be fixed, and most urgently, or our society is doomed.

The purple Uniparty is destroying our democracy. National is in step with Labour on too many major policies. Demand more political differentiation from your local center right MP.

Trump didn't blink I’m just a Kiwi watching from the other side of the world, but I recognise a world-altering war when I see one. For the anti-war brigade who like to think that no war is ever just, they need to explain exactly why they’re perfectly comfortable with the status quo which happens to be a permanent state of war, i.e,. a murderous Islamic Republic that has spent its entire existence exporting terrorism and threatening civilisation itself, while also terrorising its own citizens within its borders. Anti-war my ass. oliviapierson.org/blog/trump-did…

The left call racism if you dare object to excessive immigration. Their strategy is to shame you with pejorative terms while they continue with demographic changes that will slyly bring them the power they seek. Never forget- with the left, its always about political power!

Here's the Tarquinius comment in full- Rant of the Day. My street is one of the many around Christchurch that are seeing 3 or 4-bedroom homes removed and 6 to 9 3-bedroom flats built instead. It's insane how out of hand the parking is getting. No one parks the required 1m from your driveway. Multiple Indians buying these small flats seem to think touch parking (heavy petting) is a perfectly legitimate way to park. They'll even push cars forward with theirs to make room. They'll even argue with you that all cars have dents so just accept it. Well, mine didn't until them. Happily, Parks Towing is on average 18-minutes from phonecall to tow. The Council is fully responsible for this. It's madness and completely unsustainable. So that's the parking situation, a heap more cars with no where to go. Now for the part that is truly puzzling, since cars can be an unknown quantity, as this is an absolute given that the council should be able to plan for. Wheelie bins must be placed at least 0.5m apart, as per the council flyer, to ensure their truck can collect them. Each household puts out a small garden green bin and a large red or yellow general / recyling bin each week dependent on the rotation. Some examples of what this means below, assuming 0.0m on ends of bin rows. 5-bedroom house two doors to the left that is now 9 x 3-bedroom flats. Used to use 1.53m for bins and now uses 17.77m. Two adjacent 3-bedroom houses across road that are now each 6 x 3-bedroom flats. Used to use 3.06m and now uses 23.86m. Two 4-bedroom houses 3 doors to the right that are now both 7 x 3-bedroom flats. Used to use 3.06m and now uses 27.92m. The end result now is bins behind cars, cars damaged or bins not collected, and bins sitting right next to each other, bins not collected or knocked over with rubbish everywhere. When they're approving these who sits there and thinks "Bins used to take up 7.75m of curb space but now we'll need 69.55m and there won't be any problems. Oh yeah, and all the extra cars won't be an issue either." The average property frontage, with driveway for back property is circa. 10 - 12m.🤦‍♂️ It's this sort of planning that makes me be increasing council taxes when all they do is make your life worse. This is the reason I'm at the point of giving up on city life. Once the UNDRIP from the FTA begins in earnest it's only going to get worse. The same coucil that made all adjacent streets 30kph because "there's a school nearby" but the street the school is actually on, 4 blocks away, is still 50kph. 🤔🙄

Is the Uniparty a real thing? Does it concern you that leaders we elect to pursue small govt, low taxes and individual liberty exhibit close friendships with global colleagues who hotly oppose all of those ideas? NZ Finance Minister Nicola Willis is also Deputy leader of the National Party. The political equivalent of the Conservatives in the UK and the Liberals in Australia. Legacy media is reporting that Ms Willis and Australian Finance Minister Jim Chalmers, (an avowed socialist) are "hitting it off personally". See attached pic. They say Willis has referred to Chalmers as a "good friend" and they have "bonded over shared interests, including admiration for former Australian PM Paul Keating". Sure, diplomacy has a part to play in all such meetings, and that's fine. However Ms Willisr has been criticised in NZ for not doing enough to reduce spending, cut the size of the govt bureaucracy and reduce debt. She's spending as much as the previous Jacinda Ardern led Labour govt. Her friendship with a hard left socialist like Jim Chalmers, currently pushing policies that rob productive Australia (to give handouts to his non-productive supporters) just doesn't seem right. Pretty sure the Uniparty is a real thing. Not just in NZ and Australia but across the globe.
