@im_asl Remote work is about intentional communication so worker productivity isn’t disrupted.
- Talks with the founder
- Coaching calls
- Team brainstorm with peers
… Can all be done remotely 🤯 Mind blowing concept, right?

Remote work is terrible for 100% of ambitious people.
Right now we’re trying to hire a bunch of sales people, and I want them right here in Austin, Texas.
I want them,
- in our office
- around the founders
- talking with each other
- interacting with leadership
- learning through osmosis
Everyone talks about how great remote company cultures are, but I think the argument is more nuanced.
If you’re someone who plans to advance their career at a steady pace or has other priorities in life, remote work is great.
But for people who want to level up themselves as fast as possible, you need to work in person at a fast paced company..
I believe an employee’s learning velocity increases 10X in person vs. remote.
In physics, Velocity = speed + direction
And it’s the same in business.
Every little interaction is a learning opportunity.
- Every talk with the founder
- Every coaching call with the manager
- Every team brainstorm with their peers
The quality and number of these interactions is radically higher with in-person work cultures.
Also, remote cultures are not good at giving young ambitious employees the opportunity to watch and learn from experienced people.
Every high performer has watched what someone else has done to accelerate their learning.
If you want to be a winner, you need to see what winning looks like.
You need to be surrounded by winners.
There is no such thing as an artist like Picasso having an apprentice that was remote.
Every great person has learned from great people before them, and it’s usually happened in person.
Finally, I hope you enjoyed this short lesson!
If you want to learn more from a guy who has gone $0 to $20M a few times…
