Almost 70 of the 435 congressional districts are protected under Section 2 of the VRA, according to election law expert Nicholas Stephanopoulos. Now that one Black district has been tossed, only time will tell if any of the dozens of others will also be called into question.

The Supreme Court tossed out a majority-Black congressional district in Louisiana on Wednesday, gutting a Voting Rights Act provision that had increased minority representation in Congress since 1965.
