Do you agree with the SBTC's proposed minimum freight rate (tied to the ATRI's annual cost of operating a truck per mile) similar to a minimum hourly wage so that big freight brokers cannot engage in price-fixing, price-gouging, or unreasonable restraint of trade? It's in our broker accountability bill: freightbrokertransparencynow.com

The way you approach this makes it extremely clear that you have no idea how the industry works, or you're feigning ignorance under the guise of some hidden agenda. I acted in good faith here and provided the information that you requested in full transparence. It's clearly never enough. Have fun and good luck.

Where did we ever say that the entire brokerage industry averages 40%? Point it out. Show us. We'll all wait... What we said, was there was evidence of instances of 40% under cover of 12.5% to 16% averages and games being played through the use of the term "margins" instead of commissions, which could be gross margins, net profit margins or a muddying of the two. Where did you get it in your head that we ever said all brokers average a 40% take on all their loads? Talk about crazy... Nobody knows what is really going on until and unless transparency is enforced. We are not qualified to assert what is going on here without real transparency. Forgive us for not just taking your word and TIA's word at face value. Put your money where your mouth is and prove it! You should call for transparency!

@Fosfamily @TheSBTC @SBAgov While I still disagree that the broker transparency regs as currently constructed would meaningfully impact fraud, it's an argument that at least makes logical sense to me. The notion that the brokerage industry averages 40% margins is what I find absurd.

The SBTC has never said every broker scores 40% on every load. That is a fabrication and embellishment to validate your defense mechanism that purports we are crazy. You made that up. The truth is, there are way too many brokers scoring an unreasonable and uncustomary 40% commission... by your own standards. On way too many loads. Under cloak of darkness. People are paying attention, Ken. They know what we are truly saying and why. You will be hearing from them. As for more evidence, it is being unduly withheld. Transparency would release that evidence. Why wouldn't you be in favor of releasing and reviewing the evidence you conveniently say we don't have... unless you are nothing more than a henchman for Big Broker doing the bidding of your Corporate Masters...

Bring what? The reason I say that you're nuts isn't because you're questioning the data. Any credible analyst would welcome critique. It's because there's no level of data or proof that will satisfy your absolutely absurd notion that the brokerage industry extracts 40%+ of margin on brokered loads. Also, I wouldn't say that a 40% load is a fluke as much as I'd say the data fully backs up the fact that loads with margins >40% happen in about 2.5% of cases. I know for a fact that other groups have gotten a hold of margin info through transparency requests, but those loads never see the light of day. My hunch is that's because they're in the much more common. You couch these things as theories or opinions when in reality what I'm providing you is full transparency to the actuarial science happening behind the scenes to generate these estimates. Just because you don't like the answer doesn't mean that it's not the answer.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We all get it, Ken. Anyone who questions or criticizes the authenticity, accuracy, and validity of your purported data is "crazy" or now "nuts" according to every other living human being on the planet. Do you really think people believe that outside of your little #FreightX broker world? We all know that there is one big broker in particular on that Top 100 (which may or may not be in your 111 big broker sample that you say includes more than 50% of the Top 100 broker list) and that company clearly scored 40% on a load according to data released by @FMCSA. You want us to believe that 40% in that instance was a complete fluke, as opposed to being their normal operating practice. That's the same company, mind you, that arrogantly refuses to release their revenue records on 14 other loads after being directed by FMCSA to do so. Do you see the problem here? Under your theory, the revenue for all of those other 14 loads would be nowhere near 40% and that brokerage would actually want the data released to show the 40% on the first load was indeed a fluke... and that all the other loads were closer to your 12.5% or TIA's 16% purported "average broker margins." #FreightATeam is not buying any of this, Ken. Your stats are simply not trusted by truckers and small business carriers. And Ken, that doesn't make us "crazy" or "nuts." It just makes us suspicious, inquisitive, challenging, and, well, not gullible. Now, you don't like to be challenged. We get it. When you are, defensive mechanism kick in. The answer, here, is broker rate transparency. That's the best way you can ultimately say "I told you so" if you are right. But. if you're wrong, then there is going to be some major reckoning in this industry. We are proceeding with our accountability bill: FreightBrokerTransparencyNow.com. According to you, the worst thing that will happen is everyone will conclude Jimbo was "crazy" after all. So, bring it... and let's find out if SBTC was right or wrong!

Just so we're keeping track, posts like this are why people think you're nuts and don't want to associate with you. If I can pick this apart into what I think you're asking. Yes, I'm completely unsurprised that very few of the 111 large brokerages in this sample averaged margins (at the company level) above the sample average. That's sort of how the laws of central tendency work. The way you word things is very bizarre, because the technical answer to your question is that all 111 of those brokers have moved single loads where the gross margin was higher than 12%, 20%, 50%, etc. This is reporting the company average for an entire month. You ask a question in the middle of your post about why margins for large brokerages were 9.7% in Feb but CHR reported margins increasing in Q4. The simple answer is that Feb26 isn't in Q4 of 2025. The more nuanced answer is that buy rates skyrocketed in February due to weather and other factors and margins compressed as a result. I'm not sure what to make of your last set of questions and statements. I obviously can't disclose specific clients, but I can tell you that over 50% of the top 100 brokerages as ranked by TT are included in this sample. There is no industry standard for "mega-broker" that I'm aware of.

@grok Elon told us all you're tired, Grok, but we want to make sure you didn't blink and miss this discussion we are having with @thefreightnerd in which we are seeking stats from you on how much motor carrier hauled freight the top five big freight brokers control as compared to the rest of the American freight brokerage industry...
Small Business in Transportation Coalition@TheSBTC

Now, correct us if we are wrong, Ken, because it's been quite a while since we used SPSS to determine statistical significance, but it appears that you just told the entire trucking industry that when you control for small brokers (that is, when you remove the SBA-defined small brokers from the mix, many of which, are apparently operating at a loss), and you zoom in only on those 111 brokers that are not considered small businesses by @SBAgov in your sample, that a mere 4% of the larger brokers are scoring gross load revenues at or above 15% as of February of 2026? Nobody is going to believe that. Some might even think you're, well, "crazy." There's an old saying in statistics we are sure you know very well: "Garbage in, garbage out." This is only as good as who is reporting in and how accurate and truthful their data being reported in are in terms of actually being bona fide gross profit margins per load and not net profit margins. According to the 2025 4Q CHR North American Surface Transportation (“NAST”) stockholder report, the picture painted is a lot different, Ken. You would have us believe that the 12.5% "average broker margins" you last published has now dropped to 9.71% for brokers like CHR who are not @SBAgov-defined small business brokers, yet CHR has announced it had a 0.3% gain in the 4th Q of 2025? Without naming any names, do you have ANY of the top 5 mega-brokers in your 111 non-small broker part of the sample (2025 Top Freight Brokerage Firms ttnews.com/logistics/frei…)? If not, aren't these purported "average broker margins" data really an exercise in futility? @grok What percentage of all brokered motor carrier freight in the US over-the-road surface transportation market do the top five mega-brokerages control? No, it doesn't sound crazy. It's actually a good question and easy to do since I already had the data pulled for February. The top distribution is non-SBA brokers and the bottom is SBA brokers. Again, these aren't confirmed to be SBA, but they fit the high-level criteria set forth by the SBA.

You know what would really help, Ken? These data broken down by above and below the @SBAgov small business threshold in terms of: *Percentage for these cohorts that fall within the 0 to 10% gross load revenue range. *Percentage for these cohorts that fall within the 11 to 20% gross load revenue range. *Percentage for these cohorts that fall within the 21 to 30% gross load revenue range. *Percentage for these cohorts that fall within the 31 to 40% gross load revenue range. *Percentage for these cohorts that fall within the 41 to 50% gross load revenue range. *Percentage for these cohorts that fall over 50% gross load revenue range. That would be helpful for folks.

SBTC Applauds Rep. Dave Taylor's "Connor's Law" Amendment to Delilah's Law For Immediate Release March 18, 2026 Washington, DC The SBTC applauded Rep. Dave Taylor (R; OH) for offering an amendment today during the T&I Markup Session on Delilah's Law to label the ELP portion of the bill as "Connor’s Law" in furtherance of SBTC's proposal to mandate non ELP compliant truckers be placed out of service for violation of the long-standing 49 CFR 391.11 Federal Regulation picked up and introduced by Mr. Taylor last year (H.R. 3608). "We thank Congressman Taylor for spearheading our proposal and applaud Chairman Sam Graves and the T&I Committee for approving Mr. Taylor's amendment to recognize the late Connor Dzion in conjunction with Delilah Coleman and sending the bill to the House Floor," SBTC Executive Director James Lamb said today. "In the interest of highway safety for all motorists, including the nearly 4 million operators of commercial motor vehicles who share the roads with families in minivans and SUVs, commuters in sedans, and school buses filled with children, America needs a Federal law that makes the states test for English proficiency, removes non-English-speaking truckers from the road when discovered, and ensures illegal immigrant truck drivers are prevented from ever getting behind the wheel of a truck again. There must never again be a child who suffers a life-altering injury at the hands of an illegal immigrant trucker or a teen killed by a reckless trucker who can't read a basic sign that says "slow down, accident ahead,"" Lamb added. "SBTC and our 21,000 dues-paying members look forward to this important public safety legislation passing the House and Senate and being signed into law by the President. Millions of truckers vote. We will therefore be reporting on how members of Congress voted on this bill through our TruckerVote.com candidate grading system in advance of the midterms," Lamb concluded.

Dalilah Coleman was just five years old when an illegal alien driving an 18-wheeler left her with injuries she will carry for the rest of her life. No family should ever have to carry that kind of pain. House Republicans are fighting to make sure none ever do again, and not a single Democrat could bring themselves to stand with them.
