WHO IS EFI BALDWIN? NEWS ALERT: Efthymia “Efi” Baldwin burst into public consciousness on Saturday, June 13, with a video statement accusing Ateneo de Manila University of silencing her repeated warnings that children were not safe around her husband, Ateneo men’s basketball coach Tab Baldwin—but who is she? A 2018 article by the Otago Daily Times, a New Zealand regional newspaper, described Efi as running “an increasingly successful travel business called Definitely Greece, which runs tours around Greece,” while living with Baldwin on the outskirts of Manila. Efi says she has been married to Baldwin since 2011, and that in early 2020 she was forced to flee him for her own safety and that of her children—a sharp contrast to the picture of family life painted by the 2018 report, which noted that two of her children were then living with the couple in the Philippines. In her video statement, posted by Auckland-based barrister Tudor Clee, Efi said she repeatedly urged Ateneo to remove Baldwin from the university campus, and that the institution responded with “a campaign of intimidation and silencing.” As of posting, neither Ateneo de Manila University nor Tab Baldwin has issued a statement responding to her claims. ‘CHILDREN ARE NOT SAFE AROUND HIM’: TAB BALDWIN’S ESTRANGED WIFE NEWS ALERT: Efthymia “Efi” Baldwin, who introduced herself as the estranged wife of Ateneo de Manila University men’s basketball coach Tab Baldwin, has come out with a video statement saying she repeatedly warned Ateneo that children were not safe around her husband. However, she claimed the university responded with a campaign of intimidation and silencing. “I repeatedly told Ateneo University that children are not safe around him and that it was their duty to remove him. I urged them to move him away from the university campus, and they proceeded to launch a campaign of intimidation and silencing,” Efi said in the video, which was posted by Tudor Clee, who described himself as a barrister and criminal and traffic lawyer based in Auckland, New Zealand. Efi, who says she has been married to Baldwin since 2011 but fled him in early 2020 for her own safety and that of her children, addressed the families of the two drowned Blue Eagles directly: “Rovelyn and Elias, the deaths of your kids were not only predictable but preventable.” A 2018 profile of Baldwin by the Otago Daily Times described Efi as running a travel business called Definitely Greece, and noted that two of her children were then living with the couple in the Philippines. Baldwin also has two sons from a previous relationship, according to the same 2018 report.
