Guilty of that smug festive smile today that accompanies walking out of the supermarket at 0630 with your shopping done as those who didn’t get up at 0430 grapple their way in after spending 10 mins trying to park.

What a smart bird. A first for the patch and such a well deserved find for Phil A. Marsh Sandpiper on Black Hole Marsh

@LeonRice861481 It’s a spring tide Leon, the levels go up then and the lagoon needs it.

@LeonRice861481 Wow, it was spring tides Leon, that means the lagoon fills. As I’ve offered before when you’ve offered comment which is technically incorrect, introduce yourself and I’ll show you how this system works.

At last he has lowered the water levels at seaton wetlands and hey presto small waders are coming in. Dunlin and redshanks but star birds were these 2 adult Curlew sandpipers. Thanks Steve for the find and info. #UKBirding #Devonbirds.

Thankyou overnight rain and south easterlies! This gorgeous pair of Curlew Sandpipers (male and female on size) are on Black Hole Marsh this morning, with 11 Dunlin. My earliest autumn record of the species here. Also Wigeon and juv Med Gull

@AxeBirder We’ve had a fantastic year for them on Trinity Hill, but it doesn’t beat a churr in the garden!

A bizarre garden tick! At 03:26 this morning a Nightjar was churring in our front garden! Not a brief snippet of song but a solid ten seconds including several pitch changes, and so loud it woke us both up! Caught the end of it on this video clip, plus some mumblings from Jess!

Nice to see the surprisingly elusive Spotted Redshank on Black Hole Marsh this evening. I reckon there's every chance it is the same bird we had here on 24th June last year. Thanks for the find Clive (in both years!)...

@CRTWalesandSW This is entirely the wrong time of year for hedge laying. Good intentions don’t make this activity any less imbecilic.

@AxeBirder We had a four spot chaser at trinity hill egging last week. Perilously small pool, too!

So many Scarce Chaser out at Lower Bruckland Ponds this afternoon, at least 35 counted during a quick visit here. It was also brilliant to see two Hairy Dragonfly, one of which photo-bombed a male Scarce Chaser (see the 4th pic!). Also my first Black-tailed Skimmer of the year.

Look who's back! Female Black-winged Stilt on Black Hole Marsh this morning, distant but certainly looks to be the same female. Also a Little Ringed Plover.

Presuming a hornet… not just a jacked wasp? Either way, absolutely bloody huge… I know @TheTiercel will have an idea! 🐝

@mattkvesic They’re quite passive (if you’ve not sucked them into a hoover) they look ferocious but there’s a certain self confidence in a black and yellow insect that big!
